A833 4-speed transmission - was the casing painted in 1968?

We are getting ready to paint our 68, 383, 4-bbl, 4 speed.  Going to pull the engine and transmission out to paint the engine bay.  While we have them out, we plan to paint them, as well.  I know the engine color for 1968 is turquoise blue.  What color, if any, was the casing for the A833 - 4 speed in 1968?

I don't think the transmission was painted any color, other that its natural casting color. I have attached a few photos of an '68 A833 transmission showing what I believe is normal. 

Now, the "Charger, Roadrunner & Super Bee Restoration Guide", by Paul Herd (author), states "The transmission case should be painted dark cast-iron gray and the cover with a clear coat to simulate the original cast look."

   Natural (unpainted) cast iron color.  However, if you do not want it to rust like original, paint it with a good dark cast iron paint and it will look as good as new, if not better.
