Light truck and SUV tires: do you agree with this survey?

I'm somewhat close to getting a new set of 265/70R16 tires for my Durango, probably this summer or fall. The Tire Rack on/off road (all season) tire survey ranks them by customer reviews and I was just wondering if those of you who have SUVs and pickups agree with their findings. I'll be driving on wet pavement mostly with snow and mud mixed in once in a while.

I agree w/the survey. I worked for BF Goodrich for 4.5 years and GoodYear for 2. I'm not claiming to be an expert, but the surveys are pretty accurate when posted. I've always ran BFG on every car/truck I've owned. Unless it was a new brand new one, like our new Dodges we had, they had GoodYear tires, which were fine for what we needed theme for. We have a new Explorer now also with Michelins. But I always buy winter rims/tires studded for the wifes rigs. Which tire do yuo plan to buy?

Funny you mentioned the BFG because the All-Terrain is in the running. It's in the top 10 and of the top 20 it's got the most test miles reported so it's probably a pretty good tire. But ever since I saw this list I'm thinking about #2 and #3, the GY Wrangler Silent Armor and the Firestone Destination. Even though it's rated number one Pirelli is too foreign to me. Don't you have to be a 140-lb Italian guy and drive a Porsche to own them? What I find interesting about the survey is that even though the Pirelli scored higher overall than the Firestone more people said they would buy the Firestone again as compared to the Pirelli. What does that mean?

I put the Bridgestone A/T Revo on my 03 Dakota.  I like them alot, they have provided very good traction in the snow and ice so far this winter.  Seem a lot quieter on the highway than the goodyears it did have.

I'm probably going to get the Firestone Destination. It's the least expensive of the top three.

I think the BFG All Terains are great but pretty spendy.  I had a set on an 82' Bronco that I had that had a plow on it.  The tires got such good traction that I could plow in 2 wheel drive most of the time.r

I have Michelin X Radial LTs on my Ram truck, I LOVE them, NEVER had a better tire in wet weather.

I had BFG's on my truck when I bought it and hated them.  I couldn't wait to wear them out so I could justify a new set.  They rode fine and wore OK, but they had a nasty habit of picking up punctures (I finally bought my own plug kits to save money).  Then I took it out on the beaches of North Carolina and actually ripped a bunch of the outer edge lugs right off the tire!

I'm running the Dunlops now and so far so good  :2thumbs:

i guess different tires do well/bad for different people. i bought a jeep cj-7 last summer that had dunlops on them.. they were 3-4 years old, still had 90-95 percent tread. it was 95 in west palm beach. would you believe in the week i was on vacation 3 of them bulged out and started showing cords from driving in the heat. i finally had to go buy a new set as i didn't trust them coming all the way back to louisiana. that ruined it for me EVER getting dunlops

I've run Dunlops many times in the past and have never had a problem with them.  But here in Virginia we don't get the melting asphault heat like they do in Florida.  I'm running the Dunlop AT Rover now which is not on that list.  I picked these because I do a lot of heavy towing and these are 10 ply tires rated at 80 PSI.

the BFG all-terrain is one heck of a tire on and off road, i ran them on my 2500 4x4, never got stuck with them, course i never did anything deep either.  they last about 45000 miles, mostly highway for me.  now I run heavier tires, Cooper farm STs all terrain, they are a 10 ply tire and they heavy, i got tired of nails, havent had one yet, knock on wood.  Michelens are good street tires but i hated going into th fields with them, their all terrains wood caked up with dirt and mud and spin like it was ice, but they lasted about 50,000 miles, best bet, BFGs All terrain KOs :Twocents:
