I got the call today, January 14th, from 440 Source that the new heads are ready. They said that they only have the complete assembled heads right now, no bare castings. I plan to place my order tomorrow morning.

The springs are good to a .600 lift. Will they work with my Engle K56 cam?

On there website they also recommend using a set of Champion extended reach plugs with their heads due to "Because the amount of material (thickness) around the combustion chamber has been significantly increased in our aluminum heads, they require a spark plug with a longer reach than factory" . They dint list any heat ranges. ???

1972 Charger Topper Special, 360ci, 46RH OD trans, 8 3/4 sure grip with 3.91 gear, 14.93@92 mph.
1973 Charger Rallye, 4 speed, muscle rat. Whatever engine right now?

Paul, those springs will be fine with your k56...no worries.

The plugs should be the same as an edelbrock rpm head....i would use an NGK bcp(r)6es for a pump gas compression ratio.

You're welcome Paul....allways glad to help.  :icon_smile_big:

Just a FYI : once you do the swap and fire it up....keep an eye on your plugs. More airflow might require some jetting adjustments because it will be leaner (More air/same fuel volume with stock heads = lean mixture).  ;)

No big deal really....the extra power is worth it.  :icon_smile_cool:

More questions.

Is it advisable to use new head bolts? Do the aluminum heads torque down to the same spec as the iron heads?

Yes, you will need new head bolts....ARP makes the correct part. These have smaller 12pt heads for clearance....the stock bolts will not work because you won't be able to get a socket on them. The ARP bolt kit also comes with hardened washers to prevent gauling of the aluminum head and lube for proper torque specs.  ;)

440 source carries the ARP kit. PN 129-1005. On the 440 source website it shows these bolt kits right below the cylinder heads (same page>scroll down)

Hey Paul G--------could you briefly discuss a couple of other issues with your engine build.  What pistons, what thickness head gasket, are you decking the block, will you be running a "0" deck, what static compression ratio are you looking at?  I'am assuming a standard crank and std rod length.  For that matter, what rod are you going to use.  Thanks.

Man I wish I knew the answers you are looking for but I am not that good with engine building. I am a decent wrench but thats it. I can tell you what I know about the engine. It was rebuilt in 2000 at a shop in Phoenix called Zimmerman Racing. It has 9.5 to one pistons. All else is stock as far as I know. I put an Engle K56 cam in it last summer. I dont really know anything else about it other than that cam really woke that puppy up! I am hoping for more of the same from these heads. I ordered the gasket kit and new ARP head bolts from 440 Source along with the heads and a new valley pan.
