Hi gang, just fot my 68 delivered (will post pics tomorrow)

quick question, were 68's available in a 4 spd without a console?

My console didnt appear to be out of a charger, so I pulled it out and the console mounting bracket appears to have been repaired or installed "after the fact" while the tranny hump hole for the 4 spd looks stock - got me wondering if mine was a 4 spd no console car - is this possibe?

Also got me thinking that I LOVE the look of the 4 spd without the console (looks hardcore to me) , especially once I put a pistol grip handle on it! Anyone know where I can get the carbon fiber look grips?

I love being me......ask anybody!

Yes, the console was optional.

Mine will probably be optional until I can afford all the stuff needed to complete the original order.

Troy

Yes, the console was optional - it will be listed on your fender tag if you were supposed to get a console. I personally like them better without the console in the way. The shifter handle IS different (the console shifter has to exit out the center so it has an offset). While you're at it, you'll need a pistol grip shifter handle to put a pistol grip in there since the ball threads on to the top but the pistol grip is integrated into the handle. I'd recommend the correct shifter mechanism as well or your knuckles will be intimately familiar with your dash. You can get the grips from Gunslinger.

Troy
Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

Ghoste

For that matter, if it's the stock 68 shifter and you've already decided not to worry about originality, I'd lose it for an aftermarket one.

The non console 4spd is the way to go! You can buy a pistol grip shifter for the 70 non console B body and it fits the Hurst mechanism perfectly. You will need the correct boot for the pistol grip shifter also. Looks great!

Could someone please post a picture of a factory non-console 68 or 69 or for that matter, 70 Charger with 4-speed.  I am building a clone R/T and am keeping the factory buckets with buddy seat--------no console.  It's not a matter of saving money on the console.  I just don't want one.  I like the clean look without the console and the buddy seat with the seatback in the down position is a convenient place to lay my arm.  I will note that I have already bought all the parts:  Sherman transmission hump, shifter boot with square hole for new Hurst shifter with white shift ball and chrome shifter boot bezel plate.  But it would be nice to see what one from the factory really looked like.  I believe that the original Hurst shifter and the new one are slightly different but that doesn't worry me.  Thanks.

Hows come no one mentioned that you could get the console without it even being a 4 speed or an AT on the console. You could get the console, with an AT on the column.

Its odd ball but was available.

Here are a couple of four speed no console Coronets. The Charger would be similar.

Looks like the headrests have been redone...the chrome strip is missing from each of them. Maybe the backs are softer now.  :smilielol:

Now that's something I'd like to see a picture of. Got to be very rare.

there was an artical on the wing warriors newletter 2 months ago or so , had a picture of that console and shifter delete lid plate.  Kinda cool
  but looked really bare .

I was just going to mention the same article in the WW newsletter. I'm pretty sure there was a photo of it in that article as well. I have a photo of one around here somewhere. The first time I saw one at a swap meet, I thought someone had hacked up a console, and bolted this plate on it.

moparstuart

yes it looks really strange , but a cool option if you have a plain jane column shift car
