Compression height

Once the compression height has been calculated to achive zero deck & taking into account block tolerences never being equal , what would be the best way to acheive actual zero deck when all the rotating assembly has been put together & you find out the pistons are say 0.005  below deck.

Would you deck the block & if so ,  would you have to skim the intake also?

Thanks Adam

Sorry guys , worked the CH to be 1.5 , using a 440 block with 7.1 rods , i take it the piston manu will take care of the CH in any case. :shruggy:

Assuming a 40 thou head gasket is being used & a flat top dished piston with twelve cc valve reliefs. (10.5:1)

Stock head gaskets are .020" thick.  You can get gaskets in any thickness you want.  How much was taken off the deck already?

What's the engine combo Adam ? A 12cc dish at zero deck with an 84cc chamber and 4.25 stroke will be more than 10.5:1 compression, fyi.

The best way to achieve zero deck is to mock it up, then measure how far the pistons are below deck....the cut and square up the deck.  :yesnod:

Don't know who's hat i pulled that out of  :P , will work it out. ::)

Just trying to work out pistons being @ zero deck , tis a 4.5 bore , 4.twenty 5 stroke , 7.1 rods , maybe i'm worriying about nothing , as the piston manu will sort it out for me , just nice to be armed with some info when ordering parts , also hoping i won't have to have any machine work carried out on the block , bearing in mind it's an aftermarket. :shruggy:

Got a lot of great info from you guys on my other thread , so half way there , just the zero deck that's bothering me , maybe i was worrying about nothing.

Been thinking of what was said in the other thread , so wanting aound 600/650 HP , so hoping to use the eddy heads , although the build Bob was talking about sounded good. :'(

Ron , fitted the frame cons the other day , so maybe won't twist as bad as was first thought. :icon_smile_big ,

So, you're building a 540 huh ?  :icon_smile_big:

Frame connectors are good....your car will thank you !  :2thumbs:

The E-heads will be too small for a 540 build....you should look at an Indy EZ-1 with a MW intake port.  ;)

Anything much over 500 cubes with the Rpm heads will peak waaaay too early !  :P
