OK, so I finally got the exhaust and brakes done on the car, but there is a leak (quite noticable) in the gas tank, therefore driving is quite impossible.

I found the tank on RockAuto.com for like $180 shipped (decent price as far as i have seen), but i cant find the straps for the gas tank.  The guy that is doing the work said I should replace the straps as well as the tank since he isnt sure what he is going to find when he takes the tank down.

Anyway, that is my problem.  I cant find ANYONE who has the mounting straps, unless of course, there arent any and those J-Bolts I keep seeing are what i am looking for.

If anyone has any info, please let me know.  This is driving me nuts!!!

TOTAL COST TO DATE = 2200 car + 400 transport + 190 exhaust + 350 headers + 200 gas tank + 750 front brake conversion kit + 120 rear brakes + 1650 work + misc shipping costs = $6000

I havent even done any body work yet.  This is where I will start to be afraid.

you don't really need to replace straps or j bolts, if they are not broken. REALLY hard to get damage in my opinion. I know there is somebody around with those new repro, including J bolts. but trust me, you won't need to change them

Well, I didnt find the straps before this post and asked the guy doing the work to call me if there was a problem.  that was a week ago, but I havent heard anything good or bad, so who knows what's up with it?  I will keep you all posted, but thanks Nacho for helping out.  I appreciated the links.  At least I know what to look for if they say they need em.  You are my hero here.   ;)

do you have any old straps? i gave mine to someone who works with sheetmetal, and had him make some new ones (i didnt want to use old, ugly straps on my new tank) this worked out well maybe something to consider.

If youre car is rusty you might not get the j bolts off, at least not in a useable condition.  At least 1/2 of the ones ive removed were rusted solid and they had to be cut off or they just twisted and bent when I tried to loosen them up.   The straps I cant imagine needing to be replaced unless they were banged up somehow.

Thanks again all.  Your input has been awesome.  Turned out (suprisingly) that the gas tank and straps came off without a hitch.  Picked up a new tank for about $180 somewhere online.  Went in perfect and is working perfectly.  The shop doing the work is still having trouble with the brakes though.  They say they cant get the vacuum part to work correctly.  They are replacing another part this week ($60) and after that, they cant think of what else could be causing the problem.  Everything about the brakes are new (Read Drums and pads and spring kit, Front Disc Conversion kit, power booster, master cylinder, brake likes, etc) and they said this is the only thing that hasnt been changed out.  Wont know how that goes until like wednesday or so.  I hope it works out otherwise I will be very upset that I spent that kind of money fixing a car that cant stop.   :brickwall:

Other than that, we still need to get a split bench cover for the front seats, a new headliner, and that piece that goes behind the back seat under the rear window (dont know what it is called and cant find it anywhere, probably because i dont know what it is called.   ??? )

After that is done, its all just bodywork.  Not sure who is going to do the work yet because we have a couple of options, but we are hoping that my gf's brother will do it.  He does amazing work, but he never has time to work on things.  We shall see.  Anyways, as soon as I get the car on the road, I will post an update.  Again, thanks a lot guys and girls.  You have been awesome!   :2thumbs: :2thumbs: :2thumbs:
