what is that clicking noise???? and is it killing my engine slowly? or worse, quickly?

ive heard lifters, valves, and "get a new car"

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :'(

Sounds like a dropped valve and shattered piston. Shut it OFF!!!! Pull the valve cover and hope for the best.

I wouldnt run it much more, My speakers are shitty, so i couldn't really hear it very well but i had an exhuast leak sound similar like that before.. but i would give a full examination before even thinking about turning the key any more :eyes:

dukeboy_318

agreed, pull the valve covers and check to make suur you didnt drop a valve, pray for it too  cause it dont sound good at all :eek2:

Just so everyone knows, it doesnt always do it! i for got to mention that, sry, but once its warmed up, its fine. purrrs like a kitteh.

I just took it to a shop, and the guy thinks its a lifter. 400-500$ repair he says, but it should be ok to drive he said. do you guys agree?

Nothin' like too much information, huh? That water or oil coming out the exhaust?

I say exhuast leak, when it warms up the heat expands and seals things up a little ... But i would still check other stuff to make sure its not more serious.

what i would do is, take the exhuast manifold off and check the gasket to make sure its not blown out , if its not start tearing it up. I wouldn't run it until you find out for certain..

It could be a colapsed lifter....time to pull it down and see what's going on.  :Twocents:

Bad lifter.

Sticky valve..

Have also had the same results from using too thick an oil in a late model motor with roller lifters. (Probably not your problem)..

Both can seem to go away with heat.

Start with a cold motor and pull the valve cover on the side you think the noise is coming from. Be careful to not knock off any kind of build up from under the cover into the head.

Once it is removed check all rockers. Try to move them one by one up and down at the push rod end. They should all feel about the same, but some will have more pressure on the as they are lifting the valves. You should make note of where you start looking and then turn the motor one full revolution. Now check the rest of the rockers.. You will more than likely find your culprit this way.

If not, clean out the inside of your valve cover and get ready for some oily mess..

With the cover cleaned up, set it back in place and start the motor. Once running, lift the cover from the carb side a little and listen. Is it louder when you lift it, or maybe the noise is coming from the other side??

If you think you have the correct side and have long enough wires to lift off the cover, do so. Hopefully you won't have a flood of oil pouring out. I use a piece of cardboard to funnel oil toward the drain backs and not out onto the headers/manifolds.

With it running and the cover off you can push down on the push rod side of the rockers one by one to determin which it is. Once you know that it is time to shut it down and start removing and inspecting parts..

Keep us up to date on your progress and if you need more help you know where we are...  :2thumbs:
