Some say that the old ones will be highly sought after, while others argue that the demand will fall because you can get a new car for the same price with less hassle.

I'm not talking about the car guys - they will still appreciate the old ones where you can work on etc. - I'm talking about the market in general.

Zero.

The same question came up when  the new Mustangs and Chargers came out. No real gearhead will sell their classic Challenger for a new one. Two totally different vehicles.  The general pubic cant tell the difference between a Charger and a Challenger anyway, much less start buying up classic ones.

I missed that thread ;) I was talking to a few of my friends and everybody had a different opinion - that's why I brought it up.

The Mopar market now has another place to potentially spend $35K and get a hot V8 RWD musclecar.  At least a little of that demand is unquestionably gonna be redirected away from the demand for the classic ones.

Good. Let's hope it directs A LOT of demand away from the classics.

It definitely won't hurt, but probably won't help.

I think they're going to sell a lot of ragtops to old bald guys that don't even change their own oil.

Agreed . I don't see it as having any effect . They are nothing like the classics . They are just so old guys that now nothing about cars can think they are cool and try to get young women to look at them while they drive at 20 MPH .

It will drop. The young will want the new. Not too many people can afford both if prices of the old remain the same. The old will have the cars they want very soon. The young wont like the feel of an old car versus a new. For the money new is a better buy for someone who doesn't have love for the old cars.

Yeah, but that particular batch of young guys was never really in the classic Challenger market anyway.  NOBODY with any financial limitations on their car shopping ever owns a 40-year-old Dodge Challenger if they don't absolutely love them to a fault.

No matter what age you are, if you love old Mopars then you're hooked.  You're probably never gonna abandon them entirely over the new one.

But --
You might buy a new Chally instead of a 2nd/3rd/4th old Mopar though.  That's where the effect will probably be felt the most.
