I saw this cute little truck on ebay, going for what seemed like nothing.
I had one just like it a long time ago, and was pretty nostalgic about the darned thing.
So like an idiot I put a bid on it. (Note to self:...vodka + orange juice + Ebay = $$$)

The next morning, I checked the auction again and there were no other bidders.
All week...same thing.
Then tonight I was practically cussing at the computer, hoping somebody would snipe me....no luck.
I repeatedly refreshed the page during the final few minutes, hoping for that bid that never came.

Now I own a 1968 Dodge Utiline SWB pickup, three on the tree and leaning tower of power.
I suppose I should be happy.
I guess deep down inside I am. :shruggy:
However, there's the shipping yet to deal with......And the border crap. *Ughh!!*
I've never had to deal with this before....any suggestions?
Know any good shippers?
(BTW: The truck is in Bakersfield California, and I'm in Alberta, Canada)

And I've got a name for my new purchase...I'm going to call the truck: "Buck Owe'ns"

Here's a few pics of the truck I was nostalgic for, shot in the early 1990's.
Although the year is different, the similarities are definately there.
This was was a 1965, with a 273 2bbl, and a fourspeed (with that ungodly low first gear, and ratfink-worthy shifter).
In it's prior vocation, it was a pusher truck at a Gulf service station, which explains that massive front bumper.
I traded a Yamaha 650 special for the old thing, and even though it hadn't run in years, I fiddled with it and drove it right out of there.
It wasn't long before I had it lowered, shaved, re-engined, and with a Cordoba clip under the front end.
Unfortunately I had to move, and was forced to sell it. (Kept my Charger though!)

Oh, I still have that lady sitting on the roof too! 24 years last October, still going strong!

Just buy it and have it hauled to my place. That way you won't have to worry about all that border crap or finding a place to store it. I'm just that kind of nice guy...

Sure...But it would probably cost just as much to ship to Marion Ohio, as it would to my place.
But thanks for your generous offer!! :2thumbs:

Dude, that's a real nice little truck. I'd like to have the same thing but a '72+ instead. The windshields on the '61-'71 make me sick to my stomach. Does that happen to anyone else? If I look through the ends of the windshield where it curves back to the door frame it screws up my vision and makes me nauseous. Maybe it's just a weird quirk of mine.

tecmopar

Bull, its all you, maybe to many cheap beers, or not enough, try a better brand. Seriously though, I don't remember which car it was years ago that had a windshield that was really wierd to look through when making turns so I just didn't look anymore, lol, but it did have a crazy shape to it.

Magnumcharger

That's an interesting effect for sure. I've had 6 of these trucks over the years and can honestly say I've never noticed that.
On some of the older Chryslers, and maybe those GM products from the late '50's, I could see that as being a problem.
The only windshield I have personally had any issues with was one in a Chevy Lumina van. The road surface seemed to undulate with the waves in the glass.

Well if you would have done a drunken buy on a '69 long box,I would welcome it to my place.

I can only say ONE thing about that little truck: "I'm jealous"  :drool5:

i think you bought that truck for a reason. a deep down reason. you know what i mean. i think you'll be happy with what you did when you get it home. i did that whith a van once-77 dodge-, bought it, regreted it for a while, then loved the thing. worked on it more than the charger. ya i said it. finally one day, my garbage man walked past it one to many times and made me an offer i couldnt refuse. oh well, i had  fun with it. back to the charger i went.  i wish i had it back. now you are in that position and you have yours back. i do envy you in that way. consider yourself lucky on getting another chance. i know you'll be happy.

Looks like a solid & straight truck, should be a good project to start with. For a few years in a row I had seen a huge crew cab version of a similar truck at the Chryslers at Carlisle show for sale. It had the remains of a service station's lettering on it. I liked it, but it was higher than $2000 & wasn't as straight as the one you just got from ebay.

Personally, I think that was a great buy!  After shipping cost, etc.....if you just wanted to "flip it" ....you'll still be out ahead on the deal.  Those trucks are becoming very popiular.  :2thumbs:

Nice score!

For the border "crap" just make sure you get a copy of the title and/or bill of sale to the U.S. Customs office at the crossing that the truck will come through and do it at least 72 hours before you show up with the truck. It helps to know the rules about titles in the state where you purchased it. (and if you have to "remind" the US customs agent, do it nicely.  ;D )

They'll rubber stamp some papers that you then take to Canada customs. They'll let you through as soon as you pay the taxes...

OR

find a transport company that will deal with all of the shtuff for you.

:iagree:  Old Sweptlines are cool.  Musclecar era Dodge trucks are an affordable way to enjoy the mopar hobby, surprising how cheap they sell for.

Here is a 69 D200 Camper Special 383/Auto I'm working on:

*Speed costs money son, how fast do you want to go, and for how long?"
*"Build the biggest engine you can afford the first time."
*"We normally wouldn't use a 383 for this build, parts and labor for a 440 cost the same."

We have used Passport Transport for hauling our cars that we have gotten off of ebay across the states.  Very reasonable with prices and they are a owner/operator type business so you know they take care of their stuff because it is inside their own tractor trailers.  I highly recommend them.

Hey moparhound, there's another camperspecial roaming around here. :2thumbs: Here's my Dad's 68 camper special 383/auto on the dash that I'm working on for him. Sorry for the crappy picture(I just took them with the phone). He got lucky with this one. It's been blasted and it's extremely strait with no rust.
