73-74 front windshield

Can some help here.  How is the front windshield in a 74 put in. Does it have a gasket around it or is it glued in. Mine is glued in and I am just ckecking to see if that is right or if the previous owner just glued it in.

glued with a sealing ribbon, and then chanel filled with window sealer.

You should find a couple of small plastic or hard rubber setting blocks at the bottom of the windshield. The new window ribbon used to come packed with a couple in each box, but I've purchased window ribbon where they've been missing or there was only one. Don't lose your old ones unless you have new ones. It's not the end of the world, but they help locate the glass and keep it from sliding down.

If you've never done one of these before, it's not that difficult, just heavy. And, whatever you do, resist all temptation to pry on the glass when removing one.

Thanks for the info. I wasnt sure and wanted to make sure the new glass went in right. Also I should have asked before hand and didnt how about the back glass too I need to pull it out with out messing it up because I will need it to go in another car.

Back glass comes out and goes in the same. It's easier because it's smaller and lighter. If you're reusing the same glass, I recommend running masking tape from the glass to the pillars (assuming yours is factory installed). Slice through the tape and it'll give you reference marks for reinstallation. But, once that glass touches that ribbon sealer, it's going to stick. Get a helper, hover the glass just over the sealer, and set it only when you're sure it's where you want it.

All you really need is the Ribbon sealer. Or just buy a tube of urethane sealer and use it. The Ribbon was the factory material but I think the urethane is better.

as stated by hemihead, yeah that's another way to attach... I used ( glass shop ) last time I removed windshield to replace vinyl top. Does look a great option. Has been told urethane is less corrosive than ribbon sealer, but don't really know for sure

I still dunno what would be better. Ribbon has an advantage, does look cleaner once installed on inside view
