elephant mopar motor ???

I was talking with this one guy I  know from seeing him around shows and hes a chebby guy but would take mopar next like RR or Bee. Any way he come up and asks me about some Elephant motor 457 Ci and that its suppose to be a "killer engine" . I didnt know what the hell he was talking about does anyone else?

the HEMI was refered to as the "Elephant Motor" back in the day..
Chevy small block was the "Mouse"...

   I wonder if he was refering to the new crate engines, the 426,472 & the 528 HEMI  and of course the pro street 540 HEMI from Mopar Performance!

The numbers above are correct 426, 472, 528, 540, 572, 600 

572 is a square motor meaning bore of 4.5 and stroke of the same.  I believe the 600 cube needs a stroker crank....  I believe the normal bore is 4.25 and stroke of 3.75 for the 426? 

The 472 has a 4.15 stroke and same bore.

540 is 4.25 stroke and bore of 4.50?

I am sure someone knows I have to look up these # to be sure.

The Iron Elephant was nickname penned for the 426 Hemi back in the 60's.  The National Hemi Owners Association used an elephant with a Hemi on it's back as part of their logo when they were still a viable club.  The Hemi Cuda didn't use it as a nickname exclusively.  One 70 Cuda ad did refer to it as "slippery wrapped around ole King Kong hisself"  or something like that.  The elephant nickname was given by enthusiasts and it was because of the size of the thing when you opened the hood.
As to a Chevy using it incorrectly, does that surprise anyone?  How many ads have you seen for factory 383 Hemi Six Packs?  Some people learn the buzzwords and use them in the hope of sounding cool.

Never heard of a 457 Elephant Motor. Maybe he was just refering to a stroked Hemi ?

i might be wrong ....but i seem to recall reading about  a 452? ? ?  hemi, in adition to the other smaller version which was a 3?? ...which came in older full size cars.......

again, im just thinkin i read this in a mag somewhere.....i might be wrong

Well they did make some odd numbers in the older versions I know of 331, 392 for sure.  I do know there are a few other older versions as well.

Old style came in Chrysler 331, 354, and 392.  Dodge in 241, 270, 315, and 325.  DeSoto in 276, 291, 330, 341, and 345.  Second generation in 426.  Through the miracle of stroker cranks anything can be had in nearly any size (within reason) but these are the factory displacements.
Oh, and the 3rd gen ones at 5.7 and 6.1 litres.  (I think that is about 345 and 390 but I'm not too good with my metric conversions)
