what year is the best handling charger... the 3rd gen is more aero-dynamic but does it handle better too?

my guess would be the 80s chargers.. but i am more wondering about the muscle chargers

stock for stock they each have their own advantages. I've owned 2nd gen B body cars and 3rd gen ones, and above 90 MPH the 3rd gen chargers handle better, but there is nothing quite as nice as the ride quality of a 2nd generation b body at highway cruising speeds.

Petty said once ( read on the web somewhere ) 73/74 is the best Nascar car he ever drove I think on his Nascar life

no kidding on 08's - but i know my 72 Roadrunner handles better than my 68 charger (stock for stock)
1968 Dodge Charger - 6.1L Hemi / 6-speed / 3.55 Sure Grip

2013 Dodge Challenger R/T - 5.7L Hemi / 6-speed / 3.73 Limited Slip

1964 Dodge Polara 500 - 440 / 4-speed / 3.91 Sure Grip

1973 Dodge Challenger Rallye - 340 / A-518 / 3.23 Sure Grip

my 72 rallye handles great...except for the 24:1 steering which is way too slow to turn
my 69 handled pretty ropy when I got it but frame connectors and replacing the rear springs transformed it
the 72 would still be better though if it had fast ratio steering...

I have yet to own a 3rd gen , but I've always thought of them as big fat ponycars from a styling and engineering standpoint.  But all it seems we have to go on are personal opinions, I don't think anyone did any back to back comparisons with skidpad numbers and slalom times.  :shruggy:

3rd gen for sure, if you have sway bars. We all know 3rd gens are smaller, shorter cars, and there should some improvement as years go on. Owned and driven many 2nd and 3rd gens...night and day.

I got a 69 and a 71  and the 71 is a better handling car all the way around. The faster you go the better it gets.

I like the 69 for highway driving better then the 71. Its a more comfortable car to travel in.

I posted a tech story on my web site many years ago comparing the 2 cars against each other.
