What kind of paint

WINGMAN

  I have some small dents and scrapes on the right front fender of my 69 500, the car needs a total new paint job but it all origanal paint and i want to leave it that way for now. I have a good friend who can do the repair but is haveing a hard time comeing up with a solution to make it match 38 year old fided paint. Can some help. Thanks.        Wingman.

just take it to local paint supply shop they should be able to match color for you.

If the original finish is laquer based paint, it will need to be recoated with laquer or another thermoplastic based paint.  If not, it will need to be sealed first and refinished.  Color math here is not so much an issue as the type of refinish system used.  If it's recoated with something other than laquer without sealing it, it may cause a chemical reaction with the old paint and cause it to lift creating a much worse problem.

I wouldn't even bother repainting over old paint, just strip it all down, work out dents and repaint.
