Yes, I know the car from the Houston area.  I talked to him several times before he ran the advert, each time he revealed more issues with the car.  He finally sent some pictures showing one of the problem areas, a large rectangular hole had been made in the nose to aid cooling... then later patched up.  At the time he was wanting $4000... I probably should have negotiated the price and gotten the car, but I did not like the changing story (also was too picky, something I now regret).

I hope to find the pictures someday, and will post them if/when I do.

Everyone call those #'s and ask about car for sale just for fun of it!!!!! :icon_smile_big:

Magnumcharger

There seems to have been a disproportionate amount of those cars sold in that area when they were new!
And of course, they still seemed to be there when they were "old used cars", back in the day.

Where I lived, there was ONE (Alpine white) Superbird sold. In the entire city!
An NHL player named Danny Grant ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danny_Grant) bought it, and from what I heard later, had it stolen. It was found in upstate New York, burned.
But even before that, nobody ever saw the car driving around.

pettybird

here's the ad for the petty car:

I DID call the number a few years back and it wasn't the guy any more...  from the west side of Indy.  for some reason, I don't have the sheriff's auction notice for the B5 car, so I'm guessing that dad heard of the car word-of-mouth rather than saw it in the paper.  he kept a bunch of stuff, and laminated it.  that means, of course, that the papers are now clear and almost impossible to read.  I used the laminated registration dad found in the glove compartment to track down the B5 car's previous owner, though--we visited him a couple years back.  he hadn't seen the car in more than 30 years.

while I had that out, i took a pic of the stuff we've found in the car, including the first nascar master sheet and one broadcast sheet.  i'll be pulling the carpet, dash, headliner and front seat cover to see if there's anything else.  the center document is cool--it's the new car prep sheet filled out by the service department.  the car was prepped the day after christmas '69 and sold exactly two months later on feb. 26 (we have the original warranty sheet, in the owner's manual packet. )  the packet also has the indent from the secretary writing " '70 Superbird" on the cover...too cool.
