I got this car a week ago and i havent had it running at all really.  I replaced the carb cause the old one leaked and was gummed up.  The new one is a 750 double pumper.  The problem is that i guess i am getting intermittent spark.  its got a mallory unilite ditributor and a mallory promaster coil.  The coil has got 10 volts to it with the key in the run position.  i just changed the plugs and there is no change.  The car will just crank and crank and crank.  Sometimes i can get it to start and it will run rough and i have to keep my foot on the gas.  If i take my foot off the gas it will die.  I am checking spark by pulling out a plug and grounding it on the block and cranking it.  any ideas.  I dont know whats going on and im about ready to get a 6al box and new distributor but dont want to spend the 600 dollars if its going to do the same thing.

is your distributer 180 degree's off?

check your electrical connections from the coil back to the ignition module against the online docs and make sure you have voltage where you should and what you should. I'm not much help because I haven't messed with the mallory units, but a coil and dist. can't have much going wrong with them, check what runs those... aka the ballast and the ignition module

I would suggest rotating the distributor 180 degrees and see if that fixes your problem. I had the same trouble last weekend when I was trying to start my 440 for the first time. It would crank and crank and crank, but it would never start. I flipped it 180 degrees and it busted right off.

You didn't say what engine you have, but check the simple things first. Firinig order, dist. cap, rotor, timing. Sounds like it could be something as simple as moisture in the dist. cap. :Twocents:

i just installed a 6al box and the car fired right up.  Something was wrong with the mallory coil or the 2 ballast resistors.  The carb is a little rich and the timing is off so ill have to straighten that out but it started.
