Back around 1996 then a 20 yr old kid I answered an add in a local shopers guide that simply said "1972 Charger $2,500 Alburtis, PA".  Being the Mopar Head I am a buddy and I went to check it out. We got there and was greeted by the woman I talked to on the phone "very attractive and having an English accent of all things" and went to the garage. There in the garage sat a gold, black topped, hood less 1972 Rallye. I kinda just stared at it for a bit amazed that it was a Rallye car and not a plain jane 318 hardtop I had expected then went head first to investigate my find. First looked over the body before anything and noticed the lower quarters where shot but the rest of the car wasn't too bad. Then I peeked in the drivers window to see something I NEVER expected, a black bench interior with a Hurst pistol grip 4-speed sticking out of the floor! I was now elbowing my buddy stating we found something really rare. I went to the dash VIN. And before I could read it the woman said this in her English accent "this is like a 1 of 2 car" I quickly turned around and she said "Yeah this is a six-pack car!" Now my face is planted on the windshield reading the VIN, unfortunately it wasn't a V code which I knew back then was the 440 Six Pack code but there was a U, 440-4. More interesting was this was not a hardtop, this was a 440, 4-speed coupe!!! I told the lady that is was NOT a six pack car that she had thought it was and she started arguing with me about it got alittle pissy. At that I told her what she had and not knowing how RARE this car I told her I'll give her a call if im interested. Well I never called, had a 71 Charger 500 318 car (LOL) sitting and didnt need another one. Found out years later this was a 1 of 12 car I let slip through my fingers. Now fast forward 12 yrs and at the 2008 Chyslers at Carlisle I see parked in one of the swap meet rows a cherry 1972 Rallye Charger, Gold, Black top, 440 magnum emblems on the bulge hood. I Run up to it look in and there it is a black bench seat and a 4-speed! I found a woman near by and asked if she knew the owner of this car and she stated it was her husbands car! I asked if he bought it in the Alburtis/Macungie PA area and she believed that to be true! I never got to meet the husband so do any of you Mopar Nuts know this car or the owner? Any help would be great, I still cry myself to sleep every night knowing I passed this car up and then see it at Carlisle 12 yrs later!

We all have stories like this Stanman.  Back in '96 or '97 my friend buys a rust free '68 383 Charger with rediculouly low miles and we rebuild the engine and get it running and he drives it around for a year.  Then in the fall he needed money for tuition at our college and he didnt want to store it for the winter he sells it for enough money for tuition for the year (about $5000 at the time) and it is gone.  I tried so hard to come up with enough money to buy it from him but just couldn't do it.   :brickwall:

Thats a tear jerker bud  :'( I feel for ya! A guy I work with a couple of years ago sold a low mile red on black 70 Challenger 383 vert all original driver for 10k & also a nice 70 bee 4-speed w/dana rear for 8k. I didnt talk to him at the time and could've shot myself when he told me. The guy who bought the bee sold it 3 days later for a good profit, don't know about the vert Challenger.
