I am trying to get the master cylinder push rod out of the old mastercylinder and into the new one. I have gotten the old one taken apart but the push rod doesnt want to come out of the old assembly...How do I get it out? Isnt it supposed to just pop out once you have it dissassembled like this? How do i get the push rod out? Here is a pic. Its for a 70 B-body. How does that top part come off? In the bore of the new mastercylinder it is just a smooth bore with nothing to hold the push rod in? But how does it come out? Does the pushrod just press into the bore and if so then why will it not just pop out of there? I cant get it out.

If you don't need the part that goes in the master cylinder, because it looks like you have one in in your master already, put that part in a vise and spray some lube like WD-40 in the hole where they connect, grab the shaft of the pushrod with some vise grips and tap the vise grips with a hammer it should come out it's only held in by a rubber seal type ring.

Just 6T9 CHGR

:iagree:

The rod is only held in by a short piece of almost like vacuum hose.  After many years of service they almost become welded together.  Put it in a vice & pull like heck!

I dont suppose the new master came with a new rubber grommet?  I'm fairly sure you can get away with a piece of vacuum hose to retain the rod..
If not there is a company that stocks these...  Trying to remember who....
