It's gone. Mike and his buddies drove away less than an hour ago, headed for New York.

I definitely had a knot in my stomach. My wife was in tears. My 3 year old daughter doesn't realize it's gone yet.

Ironically, that was the first time I had seen someone else driving the car without me in it. Never realized just how wicked it sounds before now.

Close the book on that chapter in my Mopar life.

I'm now busy installing a new carb on the GTX. The wife says it needs a different exhaust too (so it will sound more like the Charger).

Hey guys -

Well, the Charger is home in Queens 867 miles from Jame's home in Indiana - we left Saturday at about 1pm and arrived home last night about 5:30pm after having stayed over night in West Virginia (BTW - don't ever go to the town of Wheeling... creepy). I have to thank James for being a true stand up guy. The car is exactly as advertised without any surprises whatsoever. The car ran great and I learned that A/C and cruise control are very nice features to have in a classic Charger. We hit no traffic the entire way home until of course we hit the Holland Tunnel in New Jersey on our way into Manhattan. In the NYC we got a bunch of stares and some great compliments as the exhaust note coming off the building in NYC surely did make a few people stop and turn to see what was rolling up the street.

Again, thanks to James for building a great reliable car - it's exactly what I was looking for.

Cheers - Mike

I have seen that highway and tunnel each year on the way to and from the Nationals.

Gotta love those GPS's. Great device. By the way. I don't have a Tom Tom so is that 87 MPH I see?

So Mike. What are your plans for the '69? Leave basically as is or major re-do?

I actually like your new GTX better ....just being honest.  :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod:

The Charger will be getting revamped so to speak - a couple of tweaks here a couple there. The TomTom GPS Unit works beautifully as does the Valentine 1 Radar detector. Both items are well worth the money... and yes that was 87mph.

Congrats and good luck to both of you guys! Looks like you both came out Winners on this deal!  :2thumbs:

Can't really say yet, but it will be pretty neat when it's all done.

Okay, that's understandale.  But please make sure all of us at Dodgecharger.com are the first ones to know!!  :2thumbs:

Is it going to get a shot at a Bullrun type event?

I know I'll definitely miss eating up the interstate in that car. As Mike can now attest, the old Charger is capable of devouring large chunks of highway in a big hurry. I'll bet that 87 mph wasn't the highest number registered along the way.

I presume you had the windows rolled down going through the tunnel. That must have sounded awesome.

The GTX is a totally different animal. It has been nothing more than a show pony/lawn ornament for the last eight years. It's got a long way to go before it will even hold a candle to the Charger in terms of driving experience. I'm looking forward to the challenge of bringing the GTX up to my standards.

Right after Mike left, I went to work (nice having my garage space back). I yanked the POS Edelbrock 600 and bolted on a Holley 770. Still got some tuning to do, but the Holley really perked things up. I'll get it dialed in this week as time permits.

Now I'm starting to scrounge up the parts for conversion to power steering. That won't get completed until after Nationals though.
