Can anybody find a Part # for my 73? - URGENT

Its getting near impossible to find parts for this car.   I just called all the auto parts stores and all the dealers in my area and nobody has, or can even lookup the parts that I NEED for my car.

I wanted to take my   car for the annual Mopar day tomorrow, but since my parking brake cable snapped in half, and nobody carries it, I doubt it will pass inspection and I'd like to have that added security in an emergency running down the track anyways.

Its very frustrating when you call up 4 dodge dealers and they can't even look up the parts.

One auto parts store - I think it was Advance - said they could order it.   Now, if they could find the part, why can't a dealer?

If I only had a part # for that intermediate parking brake cable - the one that is ~ 94" long, I might be able to give it to them and make the show.

the old chrysler part number is 3642281-its probably superceded by another number, but i hope that helps

Thanks for the part #.  i called a dealer and they said it was a valid number but it was no longer available anywhere.

I guess it aint gonna happen.  I'll have to order one from Paddock assuming they still carry them.

I'll try patching the old cable together tonight. Maybe I could find some strong clips to make loops out of the broken ends, and find another piece of cable at a hardware store to go between them, and try to weld it all together.

thanks again for that attempt... tried calling napa again with that part # and they found nothing.  was that a napa # or dodge #?
I'll just have to go to a hardware store I guess and make a temporary one.
Although, today my batery died on me in a parking lot and I had to buy tools to get it out, bring it to Pepboys to test - which it showed up good but a bit discharged - 12.7?  the machine brought it to 14.?  I put it back in and it started. So now I have another problem.
Could this be the voltage regulator going bad or the alternator.  My car often does not start on the first try when warm so Im sure it gets discharged but the amp meter was reading right in the middle.
Maybe God doesn't want me to race tomorrow.  :(

yeah - thats good to know that there are still companies out there like paddock and year one where you can get parts. I know that and am thankful for what they do, but when you need something same day, your piss outta luck with an old car. :rotz:

OK...

1. That was a napa # right off www.napaonline.com

2.   Pepboys will also test your alternator for you.    You should charge for awhile after starting the car... normally the meter should be + somewhat while driving although it may swing - with the lights on at a stop sign for instance.   It beats guessing.

Good luck
