I was told by a non mopar guy that 69 Chargers did not have the 318 option.  He was positive and then asked me where I got my information.  I ended the conversation there and went to the next salvage yard.

What can you do.

bull

Stop talking to those non-Moopar guys for starters. :yesnod:

It's annoying....but those are the types that may have some parts and don't know what they have. He might have "some weird motor out back that's got the plug wires straight down thru the valve covers".

probly not.....but ya never know ;)

71bee

I love these freakin' "know it alls" especially the Brand X'er types.

If I had a nickel for every time that I was told, "they didn't make a Super Bee in '71" or, "they never had a Super Bee option for the Charger."  :shruggy:

These are the same people that like to pull up a seat at the car shows and tell me how sweet the 440 Hemi was,  I've even gotten into a good discussion on some ladies '69 Super Bee with the nice 383 six pack option in it.  :brickwall:

yup, gotta love the car guru's!  :hah:

71ChallengeHer

I got in a argument with a customer the other day. He said he use to own  a 67 Challenger. I finally gave up and walked away. What an idiot. :brickwall:

I have a 1967 Coronet 440 model - - so many times I get asked  "does it have a 440 in it"?  I open the hood (to show them) the 318 small block "HEMI" - - har har har.

Bandit72

i've heard of a "factory 383 hemi", in a 4 door coronet
Daddy ran whiskey in a big black dodge
bought it at an auction at the masons lodge,
Johnson County Sherriff painted on the side,
just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside,
well him and my uncle tore that engine down,
I still remember that rumblin' sound.....

Was the 318 standard on a regular Charger....maybe that's what he meant :scratchchin:

Those are more than likely the guys who say I got a hemi and as soon as you get there it turns out to be a 318 poly :brickwall:

A guy told me his dad had a 383 HEMI Cuda... I told him the Hemi only came as a 426... He disagreed and I left it at that

This Charger right here is a one of none, that means none before it, none to come.

It's fine with me whatever the salvage yard guys says as long as I can look around and see what I can find.  I don't see any reason to educate them so they can use the information to charge me more.  What I really don't like is a junkyard where they insisit on taking everything off and won't let you take any tools into the yard.  Unfortunately, I guess times are changing with EBAY and all and the insane prices that every nut and screw on a MOPAR seems to command.  All I can say is, better hit the junkyards while you can because in just a few short years, they will just be fond memories we will all talk about.  You might even consider taking your camera to the junkyard the next time you go to record what a part hunting expedition was like (and how much fun it was).

I have an all original 1968 Dodge Charger RT/SE 500, its factory Panther Pink, with a sixpac hemi. I also have a 69 Dodge Roadrunner, factory sublime car with a 440 hemi, with a 3 speed on the column. :icon_smile_big:

...Thats my favorite question when I tell someone my Charger has a 440.... Is it a Hemi?

I think those guys have a secret club somewhere that is designed to annoy the hell out of car buffs.  They've been around for a long time now so they are still getting new members somehow.

67_Dodge_Charger

The worst part is that the guy said he worked for a dodge dealer in 1970 to 1972.  He said "the 69 did not come with a 318."  I tried to enlighten him with more information but he was not listening.

Anyway the next salvage yard guy would not sell me any pieces off a 66 Charger because he wanted to sell it complete.  I talked to the same guy 18 months ago about the same car and said no.  He wants $2500 for a rusting non-special 383 66 Charger.  It is extremely rough with a 67 Coronet front clip, heads pulled off the engine sitting in the trunk, and the rear window is not there (replaced with plexiglass.  Wow.

But this yard has some complete cars that are highly sought after.  The only problem is that he wants way too much, at least more than I am willing to spend.

But I did get some names and phone numbers of people that still have mopars in their collections and might be able to help me with some parts.

Glad to hear it wasn't a total waste then.

That's why they're callled "junk" yards.  :yesnod:

My favorite nimrod is the one who has brand "X" car, then goes on & on about the history of that brand, the engine sizes & years they were available, the options, etc., but half of what they tell you is all wrong. I'm not anywhere near being an expert, but find it humorous that I know more about a brand than they do. The last car cruise I was at, I listened to this guy with a Nova tell me all about the Chebby 396 being the biggest motor ever available in the Chevelles. I just nodded my head like the toy dog in the back window of a low rider & thought about my friend's '70 SS that had a 454 & wished he was there to discover his car was all wrong.  :smilielol:
