Importing a Charger from the US into Ontario?

I know that when importing a car from the US into Ontario, you pay the GST at the border and PST upon registration.  Now the question is what if my father-in-law, who lives in the states, purchases it for me and then under the Ontario minitry of Transportation, "gifts" me the Scotlea created Charger.  How will this affect my bringing it across the border into Canada?  Does anyone know who would appraise the car during PST payment?

Any ideas or suggestions?

i can't sneak a couple tee shirts accross the border marked as a "gift" so i don't know if you will get a car accross, i have never imported a car but i would look into importing the car before it was restored and look at the costs to send it down get the work done and compare it to bringing a restored car accross. i know if they do any mods that differentiate it from the original american title you may have a nightmare at the border. i read a story about someone trying to import a car they bought and someone had swapped out the trunk gutter and the vin stamp on the gutter never matched the title vin and they impounded it at the border. maybe someone with more experiance will chime in. :shruggy:

Besides the RCMP secret internet cops monitor all electronic messages in and out of the country and they have read of your evil custom and duty avoiding scheme so you're pretty much screwed now.  I'll bet they already have live surveillance staking out your house for posting this.

Problem; US Customs smells something funny
     RESULT; They keep the car

Problem; Canadian Customs smells something funny
RESULT: The car gets appraised --you pay                or
                 They keep the car

The last three cars that I brought across GST tax was paid at the border on the sales receipts provided by the seller, but on the last one one of the independant licence bureaus wanted an appraisal to determine the PST. I went to another licence outlet and paid the tax based on the receipt.

If you're in Ontario, then the second licence office made a mistake because it is supposed to be based on appraisals now.
