First of all, how do you pronounce the word Hamtramck?

Dictionary.com Unabridged (v 1.1)
Ham·tramck Pronunciation Key - [ham-tram-ik]
–noun a city in SE Michigan, completely surrounded by the city of Detroit. 21,300.

Hamtramck is a city in Wayne County of the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the city population was 22,976. Hamtramck is surrounded by the city of Detroit except for a small portion of the western border that touches the similarly surrounded city of Highland Park. Hamtramck is named for the soldier Jean François Hamtramck who was the first American commander of Fort Shelby, the fortification at Detroit.

A city within a city? Odd. Is this starting to look like a Brock Samson thread?

Anyway, I wonder how many Mopars were actually built in Detroit compared to Hamtramck? Other cities too.

Chris G.

Cars were built at:
Lynch Rd.
Jefferson
Belvidere, IL
Los Angeles, CA
St. Louis, MO
Windsor, ONT (Canada)
etc.

If you want numbers, you may have to do some research. The only real Mopars came from St. Louis and Hamtramck in my eyes.  ;)

tttaziz

Just pulled some numbers from Ward's Automotive Yearbook.

For 1969, 76,668 Chargers were built in Hamtramck and 12,531 were built in St. Louis.

Apparently all 49,768 1970 Chargers were built in St. Louis.

I have owned/parted/sold probably 8-10 69-70 chargers over the years and all but 1-2 were St. Louis cars.  TDC says that is unusual and now I see why.  Must be location, I guess.  That is just interesting.

OK. I must not be firing on all 8 today.

Note to self... when something doesn't make sense, apply sarcasm.  :2thumbs:  I got it!

Remember, you can say whatever you want as long as there's a smiley somewhere.

Must be how hard you hit the keys when you type or something Chris.  I have a bad habit of missing your smileys too.  :icon_smile_big:

It's Ham- tram- ick. It was once referred to as Poletown. Mostly Polish people not a strip club city. GM bought the old Dodge main and started building Cadillacs there. I spent a few of my childhood years growing up in Hamtramck and my first car was a 69 Dodge Dart that my mom had bought from a Dodge dealer in Hamtramck that is still in business. Picture is how the dealership currently looks.

This answer pretty much has nothing to do with the question but I was bored. :ricky:

Chrysler tore Dodge Main down in the early 80's.  Do you mean that GM bought the property and put up a new facility?

Yes they did.
From Wikipedia GM Hamtramck plant The 362 acre (1.46 km²) site was once an inner-city neighborhood known as Poletown, but was razed and converted to a $500 million assembly plant in 1985.
