Any advice for removing stubborn engine heads?!!? All the bolts are out (except one in loosely for safety) and the sucker won't budge  :brickwall: :brickwall: Currently I'm trying to pry the sucker off with a piece of rebar in the intake port  :shruggy: Thanks for the help!

That should work, if all the bolts are out.

terrible one

I just fold up a rag to where it's pretty thick, put it on the side of the head, and then hit the rag with a hammer. That always gets them loose for me, and you won't damage the head with the hammer if you use the rag.

Thanks guys, combination of rubber mallet and prybar did the trick  :2thumbs: Now I'm battling the main bearing caps so I can pull the crank. The number 3 cap has little to no wiggle room. Got any tips for getting these babies out (besides just whacking them with a mallet)? I'm almost down to a bare block! ;D

Also, I've been using Don Taylor's "Rebuilding Big Blocks.." as my reference and he says the dipstick tube should come out with just a little tug... this doesn't seem to be the case. I was thinking about attacking it from the inside with a dowel rod and a hammer.... bad idea??  :-\

Thanks for the help!

Something you should have in your tool box is a Brass or Copper hammer, they are softer then the cast iron so you can still give a good whack without hurting anything, good luck.
