Would you pay $4.12 PER GALLON for gas?

Did a little calculating....

1 US gallon = 3.78 liters metric.
Right now, gas is selling for between $1.124 to $1.24 per liter here in Alberta. Average price is $1.18.

3.78 x 1.18 = $4.46 Canadian, for one US gallon.

Todays monetary conversion:  $1 US = $0.925 Cdn or $1 Cdn = $1.08 US

$1.08 US divided into $4.46 = $4.12 US.

What gets me is the fact within only a few miles' radius of where I live, there are literally THOUSANDS of active oil wells, and within a few hours drive there are DOZENS of refineries.

Where's the benefit?

We're already paying that or close to it here on the west coast, so yea, I guess we would.

I know in Houston there is 100`s of millions of gallons sitting in tank farms just looking pretty :yesnod:
Earth. Even the word sounded strange to me now... unfamiliar. How long had I been gone? How long had I been back? Did it matter? I tried to find the rhythm of the world where I used to live. I followed the current. I was silent, attentive, I made a conscious effort to smile, nod, stand, and perform the millions of gestures that constitute life on earth. I studied these gestures until they became reflexes again. But I was haunted by the idea that I remembered her wrong -Solaris

$7.56   is what we pay for 1 gallon!!

Seeing that I save almost $100.00 a month by taking the bus during the work week then Id say yes. I'd pay $4.12/gallon on the weekend to drive my charger or my truck around. No problem.

It's all relative depending on how you look and deal with the situation weve been forced to deal with these days. :icon_smile_big:

If our bus system (which is also my employer) didn't turn my 20-minute commute into a 90-minute commute I'd do the same. Of course if I want to show up to work three minutes late I could cut that transit time down by 30 minutes. ::)

It's all well and good to just capitulate and pay the horrendous costs with today's gas prices.
But I have to wonder: Why is the price so high? Especially when you consider the profits the big Oil companies are making right now?
Is it;

1. An attempt by various governments to achieve a reduction in emissions?
2. A method of funding alternative energy sources?
3. Or just good old fashioned, irresponsible price gouging?

Only two years ago, when I moved out here to Alberta, gas was 66 cents per litre. Now it's DOUBLED!

Yes.  I would.  I'd complain about it, but I would.

But, I don't drive very much, either.
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.  Especially if they have access to the internet.

We've been over this before.  Oil company profits are not that high.  Yes they seem enormous in raw numbers, but those record breaking numbers come from a 12.5% profit margin, putting the typical oil company in the bottom 25% of profitability when stacked against other companies of similar magnitude.

The real question here is not about the oil companies' profitability at all.  The real question is "what is it worth TO YOU?"

I guess I would being as my Cars are my passion (along with my guitars and Music Generallee) But there will come a time when the folks on the bottom of the economic food chain will be priced out of the hobby by the escalating prices of $2,500 fenders if not $5.00 and $6.00 per gallon gas prices,..
Gas is approaching that price here now,.. probably will be next Year at this time...
I remember when I paid 50 Bucks for a cherry drivers side fender and $250 for a complete perfect '69 grill... back when gas was $1.15 per Gal. I had too work two jobs then and only work on my Frankenstein as i could afford to,.. so things are relative...

How many folks have had to give up their Cars because a new Baby was due, or it was time to buy a Home?  :pity:

"Children, raise your hands if you suspect that gas prices are gonna continue to rise, higher than inflation by a WIDE margin, for the forseeable future."

(the whole class raises its hands)

"Okay.  You can choose to complain about it, or you can dump all your savings into Big Oil stocks and benefit from it.  These companies are as powerful as many small countries, they're efficiently run, and they have a history of transferring the wealth directly from consumers to their stockholders."

i spent 6.90 a gallon on 110 leaded the other week, so i guess i cant complain about 4 bucks a gallon. but it does suck.

Bandit72

i'm gonna buy a VW Rabbit lol...my buddy went and got one, and with that little deisel and a 5 speed he gets around 50-55mpg  :o
Daddy ran whiskey in a big black dodge
bought it at an auction at the masons lodge,
Johnson County Sherriff painted on the side,
just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside,
well him and my uncle tore that engine down,
I still remember that rumblin' sound.....
