I am in need of a new engine harness for my 69.  The PO butchered it.  I am going to be running electronic ignition on it.  I already have the distributor and voltage regulator.  I need to still get the orange control unit.  My question is, do the harnesses Year One sell for 69 440/4 BBL come witht he pigtail for the ornage box or does it need to be integrated into the harness?  Also, where are you guys mounting the orange box. I have an A/C car and the firewall is full.

megaparts can get you a harness with the electronic ign. wired in already. ....i have my msd hidden under the topplate of my console but my favorite place for the box is under the battery tray.

Tom,

Do yourself a favor and DON'T get a new MP orange box.  I have heard too many problems with quality issues with them.  Your best bet is to go to a local auto parts store and get an aftermarket over the counter one which will run just as good.

I've been running an orange box since 99 with no problems.

I've had one much longer than that.  Bought a new one a couple of years ago and installed it so I could have the old one as a spare.  No problems.

I bought my engine harness from this guy.   http://evanswiring.tripod.com/index.html
You can get them already modified for electronic ignition.

It's not a midlife crisis, it's my second adolescence.

While I would agree that the anecdotal evidence suggests the orange box quality has gone down, it has to be tempered I suppose by the fact that there are a LOT of those things out there on the roads now.

Setting the control unit aside for a second here....  I want to mount it under the battery tray so it's out of the way.  I have to get a new engine harness regardless, mine it trashed.  Should I get the electronic ignition conversion harness......or.....an OEM style points one and the harness that comes with the electronic distributor kit.  I can get that particular harness separately.  This is the last thing holding me up from firing this car off and I'd like to get it done by the end of this week.

if it were me id get the one thats set up for electronic ign. then cut the wires and lengthen them to the right amount so it can be as undetectable as posible.

Can their tech line give you any idea how much extra harness you get to enable hiding the box?

I got my harness custom made by Bill Evans as well.  It was upgraded with the dual field charging system as well.  I told him where I mounted the control unit (at the time on the rear of the pass fender)   Got the harness & it fit perfectly!  $99 at the time.

Recently I took the box off the fender & bought one of these nifty brackets that a company had made up (Tallzag Auctions)......no heat issues behind there IMHO

PS---FBO makes a nice control unit & ign kit  www.4secondsflat.com
