Took my car for its first cruise

Today was the first time I drove my car for more than a 1/2 mile straight (or any classic car for that matter). I drove it to the gas station to fill up ($60  :icon_smile_blackeye:) and right away a middle aged guy walks up to me and says, "Its been a while since I've seen a car like that" and starts to tell me about an old 69 road runner he used to have. He then noticed the radio was missing to my car and told me that he still has the radio from his 69 that he would sell to me, so we exchanged numbers and he is supposed to call me back when he finds it. My car is pretty ratty looking, but I was surprised how many people would turn their heads to check it out. It was pretty fun. Now I just need to get my timing curve figured out and tune the primary circuit and it should have the power its supposed to. I live in a town where even seeing a classic mustang is rare. The only other mopar I've seen was a 70's cuda. I'm guessing thats why people were so interested in my car. I can't imagine what its like to cruise around in a nice car that runs right like all of yours. Just thought I'd share my progress with everyone. When we move back down to Tucson ,Az (June 9th) I'm going to try and get the car in for paint and pull the motor and do a basic rebuild/cam swap.

I tried to get a burn out video but the total advance is way off so it was pretty lame, but heres an idle clip I took today:

There is nothing greater in the world when you are driving a ratty old musclecar that turns heads.  That is why I love my cars.  They are not pristine, but I don't care and if I can drive them 5 miles I'm really happy!!

my road runner gets a fair share of looks, primer and all. Love to see more pics of yours. what's the info on it? engine/trans, etc.

moparguy01

you tease. show us the rest of the car!

Charger-Bodie

its kinda funny that way, couple years ago i put together a 69 valiant 2dr post that was orig. paint , it was in good cond. for its age but far from restored or new , it had a blown up /6 [yes i was surprised that could be done also] i got a cheap 74 dart 4dr put the 318 and front disc sup. in the valiant threw on a set of torgue thrust 2s and it was a fun car and it turned heads everywhere , then i sold that one and bought a 68 satellite convert., i completely redid it and made it look like a 68 road runner r4 red and all , i drove it around quite a bit and hardley got a look , i think some people just get attitude when they see a really nice car like maybe they are jelous or whatever but something a little rough around the edges they want to talk all day long its kinda cool in a way really.

Hah, I was getting ready to create the exact same topic!  After 3 years sitting in my garage, I drove my car on city streets for the 1st time yesterday to have it inspected & registered.  I was way too nervous about the car dying, overheating or brakes failing to notice anyone else looking, but it ended up running perfectly.  The wife followed me in her car and snapped this picture along the way.

Anyways, hope you get the satellite out more often now...I'll get a few more runs out of the charger this summer before pulling it apart again for the bodywork.

red72chrgr, its the stock dual exhaust with stock mufflers and turn down exhaust tips.

Blackcharger, heres some more info on the car:

1968 Sport Satellite
Numbers matching 383 commando
.030 over
eddy intake and carb
MP distributor
comp cam 292 .510 (soon to be replaced)
headers

Its originally a white w/ black top car, with green and gold interior. I'm going to paint it white and put the black top back on (its got a ripped up copper one right now) and add a road runner bulge hood with the black stripes and black interior. It should look pretty slick.

Moparguy01, heres some pictures. I've got some magnums that I need to put on:

The bad side:

Its got the hood back on now:

I'm addicted! I mean I was always addicted to working on the car and getting it to run right, but I have never driven it with other cars around etc...But now I want to get the thing running well and start driving!

Palindromes, I did the same thing. I was so nervous that the car would break down or die on the side of the road or something that I didn't get to really enjoy the whole ride, but it was still really fun. I love that shot of your car at the street light. I wish I had got some shots of my car.

Isn't that the greatest feeling? Like you, I also live in small community where seeing any classic car in this little town is rare.  Last summer my hubby finally got my car driving, pulled up to the gas station and like a swarm of bees the car was getting all sorts of attention.  My R/T hasn't seen pavement in over 11 years, and it's such a thrill to hear her breath once again.
LOVE '68 plymouths......My husband owns a '68 satellite which he restored himself.  It used to be gold with green interior..now it's 'camon blue polly' with white interior, and hosts a modded 440.  Here's a picture to share...
You'll have fun restoring your car, keep us all updated on how it's coming along!   ;)

i'd have to agree that a nice original car gets different a response then a cherry modded car...
I'd have to say the stock road runner gets more silent appreciation then the modded charger,..
the stock road runner has less shock value on the street though still conciderable while the charger get's more attention and folks flipping out...

kinda' like the charger is a Scarlett Johansen while the road runner is the sweet girl next door...

nice guys 'n gals,  gotta love them Plymouths...
