PS is the ballast resistor suposse to get hot

ballast resistor, yes gets hot with power.

check you get 12 volts at pin 1 on ECU, and is GOOD WIRED every section... tight plugs and good grounded ECU.

Check 9-10 volts ( cold engine bay ) on + lead of coil on RUN position and 12 Volts on Start position. ECU gets 9-10 Volts on Start Position backpowered throught ballast.

you must have 150 to 900 Ohms on dist pick up coil. Normally is around 300 Ohms. Check that at ECU plug and will check at the same time for good continuity on wiring up to dist.

how do i ground the ecu

Nacho-RT74

Just chassis ground. tight and clean surface... to be sure you can just sand it up the paint over the surface you attachs ( around the screw holes ) to get it better. Same the ECU itself

i ran tests with a volt meter all day and found out that on the plug to the ditributer there is no power but there is power going to the ecu, is this ok or wrong

so should one of the wires going to the distubtor have power?

I found this on slantsix.org

No, they are just driving electromagnetic pulse when reluctor creates magnetic variation field on dist pick up coil. Electrical pulse runs on black wire to - lead of coil when ECU gets the electromagnetic variation

pick up resistance it should be on 150-900 Ohms rate... mostly I have tested are around 300 ohms

could i have hooked my ballast resistor up backwards? is that why i only have 4.8 volts at the coil

Nacho-RT74

double or single resistor ?

dual prong... mmmm, that it means to me 2 prongs one on each side. There is no way to install wrong. No matter which one where, resistance is the same on one way or the other.

double resistor is 4 prongs one and those are high resistance ( around 5 ohms ) and low resistance ( 0.5 to 1.5 Ohms ) rated. You could plug it wrong if you cut the double plug stud what is a guide to plug it right on ballast, OR if yo use individiual plugs to each prong
