I hate stock intakes! F--king pain in the Chevy

Well, the 1215 intake solved one problem, next few reared the ugly head's Saturday.

1 Coil will not mount with the 750 Holley but not a big deal. Need to go to the fire wall anyway with the Blower.

2 Thottle spring and bracket will not pull the 750 all the way shut? Spring and bracket and Holley is off the the 68 Runner. Worked fine on her, but she now sports a Torker intake. Go figuer.

3 This is the best one, kick down is hitting the M/T valve covers? Thottle was sticking and had no clue why till Sunday. Found the kick down rubbing the M/T big time. Funny thing is the Runner has Chrome M/T on it and ran the black M/T on the Charger before. But, never ever with a stock intake.

Fixing number one is a no brainer, number 2, will use a helper spring in the center of the main spring. If it was not chrome I would just bend it a little.

Number 3, well what do you guy's think about this idea. Use a washer under the kick down to raise it up a little? If need bend down the contact point where it hit's the intake to help keep it from moving.

Anyone else have this problem with M/T valve cover's and stock intake or am I just speical?

Careful dude. Someone might just take you up on that offer. Will you take $10k and a '68 Charger in trade?

get rid of the kickdown and get a MVB

.....or a Lokar kickdown cable. That'll probably be your best bet anyway with the huffer throttle linkage setup.   :yesnod:

BULL, becarefull, I am not kidding. Yep $10,000 and a 68 Charger could get the my Charger. There is $6000 plus in the short block and with a little more work with cam and a little head work (with a blower did not do much) it would be a 500 Plus engine and live all day at 6500 RPM's.

If it is a stock 383 I be a happy man.

Stuck a lock washer under the kick down and it moves freely. Hooked the cable to the gas peadel and there is no pedal. Cable seem's fine so I am guess the ball for the gas pedal just slipped out. Will craw under the dash and see if that is the problem. Had that happen with the Runner and used a screw to keep it from happing again.

Neil is right, this is for break in only. When the huffer was on the Charger it look's like maybe I can make the stock cable work.

Hmmmm. Now you got me thinking. :icon_smile_cool: Where are you located again?

Speaking of intake woes, I decided to replace my worn out carb with a Holley 770 Street Avenger.  Tried to install it over the weekend, but the idle adjustment arm on the throttle linkage hits the stock cast manifold.  I see my options as follows:
1. Install a 1/2" phenolic or wood/fiber spacer which should give adequate clearance, but then I may have problems closing the hood, and I'll still have to fabricate a new coil mount to shift the coil laterally or forward.
2. Replace the stock manifold with an aluminum manifold.  I liked this option better, but am trying to keep a stock "appearance".  My warped mind then took off like the shuttle, how about adding E heads, YEA!!, Then I'll need TTI headers and a new exhaust, and I might as well replace the cam with something to match the rest of the components.  Then I slapped myself and reminded myself I was only trying to replace the carb!!  I plan to pull the motor this winter and rebuild from a short block up, I'm very open to suggestions.

Tom, I wished I had some to slap me! Man, the car has became the monster that took over my life. It started out as a Carb swap as well. But roller rockers would be good, let's see, I want a 6-pack so I bought one of them. While I was on E-bay, happen to see a used blower case and off to the race's I went.

Bull, I live in Maryville IL 62062.

Got the kick down and thottle cable working and monted the coil under the washer tank. Quick trip to Auto Stupid for some spring's, throw in the battary and get a For Sell sign and I am done. ;D

Tom, spacer should not keep the hood from closing. Just close slowly the first time. ;D

Thanks for the info.  I did stack some washers to simulate a 1/2" spacer, then layed a piece of tape (sticky-side up) on top of the air cleaner and gently closed the hood.  When I opened it again, the tape was stuck to the hood mat.  It seemed to close OK, but I suspect the air cleaner will be rubbing on the hood pad (which is brand new!!).

I can't wait till the Brute is paid off, cause then I'm gonna splurge for an Indy Legends 572 hemi crate motor with an aluminum block.  Of course, then I'll have to beef up the tranny.  Come to think of it, I should get stronger U-joints and a driveshaft loop cause you know it'll snap something eventually.  And then there's that 8-3/4" rear, it may need to be replaced with a dana 60... here I go again, PLEASE somebody slap me hard!!
