Re-curving springs?

I've heard that original leaf springs can be recurved to eliminate sagging. Does this actually work?
I would think that recurving weak springs would just end up to be a reshaped weak spring?

I've had a set on a car and that was kind of my take on them after all was said and done.  It seems to be a popular enough trick though, so maybe others have had better luck with it.

We had a set recurved and it worked fine.

I've always heard that it's one of those things like bondo --  the method works fine when done correctly, but a lot of the shops out there aren't doing it correctly.

I have an article on recurving leaf springs (on a Charger no less) using a press. I'll try to scan it and post it later today. They recommend you add in an extra leaf during the process.

Kinda hard to read but here it is (after an hour of resizing to make it work):

i'm going to take my leaf springs for tempering this week, (i did have a new set of leaf spring from mopar performance but i sold them because i heard they flatten out really quickly and the thickness of the leafs were a lot thinner than the originals)
Does anyone know how much to re-curve them, i measured one of mine & it was 6 1/4" (when turned upside down & measured from the ground to the highest point). The other was a lot flatter. What should the hight be ?

I want to recurve them to sit lower instead invert the front hanger

Really?.........I figured the MoPar ones were like the originals. I haven't heard anything bad about them.........anyone else like to chime in on this? I am gonna order some new ones. Mine had a couple broken ones.

I have a fairly new set of Mopar XHD springs on my 67, their about a year old now. I saw no difference in leaf thickness old to new at the time of install, but then again, who's really looking that close? The one thing I did notice however, was the Made in Mexico sticker... didn't really give me a feeling of confidence or a sense of quality. I have heard these same rumors myself of weak steel not properly tempered, but none-the-less, the springs have held up just fine so far, no real problem with sagging or fading as yet, still strong and firm. On the subject of re-curve... I had given some thought to re-curving these springs, just for a little extra boost over the rear tires. If I do however, I will be taking them to a local shop with an actual Blacksmith who builds suspensions for a living. A good Blacksmith will re-curve and properly temper the springs at the same time, as long as the steel is in good shape.

The springs on my 2005 Ram Quad Cab truck were made in Mexico.  They have not sagged yet and are about 3 years old.  Come to think of it, the hemi was made in Mexico too.  Tremec transmissions are made in Mexico.  So just the fact that the springs are made in Mexico is, in itself, not an indictment.  From what I have read, the best springs available come out of a place in Michigan the name of which escapes me.  It has been mentioned on this forum in the past.  They cost something like $500 for a set.

Most every town has a big truck place that does springs.  They can redo your original springs.  I had the place here do the springs on the 97 Nissan pickup I used to own and it cost something like $175.  I think you can buy a new set of springs from Mopar for something like $200.

The place in Detroit is called Eaton Detroit.  I have a set from them on my car and I'm very happy with them.

The sagging rumor is just that, a rumor. I have a set on my '68 going on 5-6 years strong. Car sits fine, line the day I put them in. Made in Mehico.
I've spoke to other people in the business that have also said it is a rumor.

Thanks Bill. I thought I read that a while back that some had them on for a while with no problems.
