A friend of mine has a 904 trans out of a 73 dart that I might pick up in case my problem with the trans in my charger is terminal.  My question is will a 904 from a 73 Dart bolt up with nothing else needed in a 74 Charger?

are the blocks the same years of the cars?

Both engines are 318s, the dart is a 73 and the charger is a 74 and my only worry is if the trans is too short for the drive shaft.

Right i figured that, but my question was if both blocks were the same years as the cars, but if they are it doesn't look like it will work. I believe what your looking for is part # 3743423. They were used starting in the late 74 models

I think it will bolt up okay.  You might want to pm John Kunkel and double check but I don't think there are any external differences to prevent a swap.
