April 27th, 427 SPD Daytona owners, need to see...

I'm looking to get my new VIN door decal for the Daytona. I was curious on what the format for the month should be, i.e spelled out or abbreviated. I know, for the most part, most Daytonas received the new door VIN decal. The driver's door pillar also had the Federal Safety decal on it as well above the interior door light switch... I'm sure Dave over at ECS knows which format it is, but I'd like to see for myself.....  I guess I should rephrase my question to get a run-down of cars built around that time and see if any, with confirmation, had the decal.

My Buddy from MD daytona who had it since 1978 was a 427 car and 926007 on the job number.I know its new current owner .I might in my pictures.Have taken a picture would have to search around here

My car was 606 and and it wasnt showing any trace of being there .Then again cars did and didnt random workmanship

David Patik (Performance Car Graphics) has pointed out before that not all Daytonas came with the VIN sticker, so it's not unheard of for an original unrestored Daytona to be stickerless.  Could be that the line workers just plain forgot to put them on some cars.

Dave B. - I don't recall what your VIN is, but I would be curious to know its build date - if it's an early car, that might lead us to believe that only the later-built cars got the stickers.  Mine is a 6/9 car, which is fairly late in the run, and it had a sticker.  That's still just a guess though.

you mean the actual decal? I'm assuming since they do not list a '69 version, then as the car was supposed to be a '70 model year release, if it did come with one, it would have the '70 version. Geno, you have a copy/picture of your decal? I guess I should rephrase my question to get a run-down of cars built around that time and see if any, with confirmation, came with a decal since Patik seems to think not all Daytonas came with them....... If there's a consensus of those coming with decals were after 427, then I'll not put one on..........

I thought that only the later production Daytonas came with the door jam VIN decal... like maybe the last 20% or so.  The only back-in-the-day Daytona that I remember with a decal was the one that sat for years in the apartment complex parking lot in Arlington, Texas.  The decal was the standard 1970 type, but the VIN # type size was very small...

I remember a thread on this - I think April was pretty early to get a door VIN ..... IIRC   Saying that, I can see an outline of where there was one on Doc - which has a late VIN. Nothing on Disco which was an earlier VIN.

Cars that I have a photo of what appears to be an original VIN tag include:

356517 (9/69, #399 on the Shipping List), 381535 (6/69, #411), 390006 (6/69, #454), 400566 (9/69, #426), 410762 (9/69, #450), and 400581 (6/69, #455)

My car was not wearing its original tag, but you could see the adhesive line where it use to be (#248 on the Shipping List).  Incidentally, all of the tags had the date spelled out in "M/YY" format.

I am still seriously wondering if the door sticker was applied by Creative Industries rather than Hamtramck.  

**edit** misread maxwellwedge/Jim's statement about which of his Daytonas had evidence of a sticker (414619) and which one did not (356532).  Sorry for the confusion...

I didn't list it, because I don't happen to have a photo of that particular car's sticker and don't know what month was shown on the sticker (have lots of pics of the car, but none of the sticker   ).  

The Dressler car was #325 on the Ship List, but had a 427 SPD like about 20% of the total run.

I seem to recall the "some random guys" having a really good look and finding a wee bit of a trace of the outline on Doc     Was it Disco? I think it was Doc. I went through some pics (including yours) and it seems we killed a few shots trying to get that area. I better drive out and have a look!

I took a look at the pictures taken by one of those random guys, and the ones in that area were of 414619/DocTona.  Weren't the door jambs of 356532/Disco prepped and painted?  I definitely didn't snap any pictures of the sticker area.

When you put the eyeball on DocTona again, try to see where the adhesive indicates the sticker's location.  In the sticker photos I've been able to find so far, they all seem to be oriented in about the same place as the Duellmann (400566) photo above.  The photos from last year aren't taken from a real good angle since we were trying to get any remnants of the adhesive line to show up, so I can't get a good fix on where that sticker was located.  That car is a unique case though, considering how late it was built at Hamtramck and how early it went through Creative Industries.  If it's different than some other "typical" cars, I wouldn't read too much into it. 

Oh, and did I mention I still don't know whether Hamtramck or Creative installed those stickers in the first place?

.Id bet that Jeff P car that sat in Arlington .Probably the original owner sons daytona .I was looking at back in the day guys name was Tim Ecord lived at the apts in Houston on Chimney rock car came with a NOS nose.Last time I was trying for the car he sold it in Arlington TX
