and i dont mean the drag strip version with 4.56's and big slicks with a 200 shot of juice. debating on restoring a 71 charger, to cruise in on saturday nights, then take to the strip and consistently run low 12's. what powerplant would you suggest? what kind of hp will get me there? auto or manual tranny?

10.5:1 440, .545 lift hydraulic cam (high rate comp cam) 850 Holley carb, modified distributor, aluminum wp and housing, aluminum radiator, extrude honed HP manifolds with 3" exhaust exitting in front of the rear passenger side tire (busch series car exhaust)  8 3/4 with a auburn sure grip unit, 3.55 gears (got a set of 4.10s coming) 3200 stall converter, with a modified trans with a strong shift kit.

that should cover about the basics of the setup. this was a home built car as well, except a trans which a friend of mine built, the rest was built by me.

71 dodge charger:  12.17 at 108 mph, 1.75 0 to 60 foot time

440
11.5 to 1
dual quad tunnel ram (2 x 600 eddy)
516 heads with 2.14/1.81 valves gasket match
4.56 gears
727 w/shift kit

could of went quicker, but the rear end was still running the stock 318 style leaf springs and were "TIRED".  Better rear suspension and I would have been in the 11's easy.
