It depends.... Is it going to be crated? Is it going from residence to residence? Or, business to business? Liftgate service and dock to dock are way different rates. Also crated/palletized freight has cost factors as well. Also, there are differences between common carriers and van line carrier rates and the services they offer. Most common carriers will not deliver to a residence or a place without a dock. So... It can add up.

PM me with more details and I can help you out a bit more if you like....

Travis, I got a complete running 383 4 speed engine from my '70 Roadrunner project, but I'm guessing shipping from So. Calif. to Louisiana would be bookoo bucks also.

I wont hear back until monday on a dollar amount, Hopefully it isnt too bad, I left a couple emails for compaines, we'll see, a 383 weighs about 500 lbs. I would guess? I guess I'll have to wait and see what they quote it at :scratchchin:

I ship 300-500 pound video arcade games all over the country via Forward Air but haven't sent any lately.  The cost as of a couple of years ago was around $175.00 to the East coast area from here - Utah. I shipped one to California for $50.00
The problem is that they will not ship if it had gas or oil in it and it must be strapped down and crated so you drain all of the fluids really well, get it crated up and don't tell them what it is. Tell them machine parts or something. If it leaks or anything though you are in trouble so I'd also bag it.

There is a place here that charges me about $125.00 - $150.00 to crate a video game and another $25.00 to deliver the crate to Forward Air.

:Twocents:

Why is it that I never have any $$ when these 383 4 speeds come around?

We ship alot of motors... I figure a 383 gotta be at least 600 lbs on a pallet. It be a class 85. Shipping to a residence (or picking up from one) will be shooting yourself in the foot price wise. Also with diesel fuel on the rise fuel surcharges will apply. Motors do not need to be crated be must be secured to a sturdy pallet. YOU must have the ability to unload it, trucking companies will NOT set one in your garage for you. They will also not be responsible if it falls off a loading dock (this happened to me once years ago). Remember once it would leave its home it will be on more than one truck before you get it. Drain and proper securing in critical. From a business shipped to a business will be your best bet. I'd figure at least $200.... but remember I'm basing this on existing accounts that we have and not a blind quote (you). Hope this helps

What company does your shipping? I left an email with somebody earlier, I will have to talk to him more about securing it for shipping, all the pointers really do help, Thanks!

We use different companies depending on various factors. In-state  out of state, time line, reliability. Also keep in mind... just because someone has shipped a few things via ups for ebay, does not mean he knows or is prepared to ship something via common carrier. Also the cheapest quote is not always your best quote... I guess his is where experience comes in. Over the years I have seen things come in half off the pallet they were shipped on OR worse due to an inexperienced shipper/ (Yes we get motors shipped to us also)
Hope this doesn't get to confusing.

Hopefully it will be secure on the pallet, I will find out monday if this can even happen if any companies reply. I always seem to do things the hard way...
