Any one have a good brand of tire skates that they have good luck with and would recommend. I thought about making my own and realized it wouldnt be cost effective after i priced out descent casters compared to what the sets of skates cost ive seen. I just want to make sure i get a good set and not fisher price. Ive seen them through summit and they look descent but dont know anyone with them. I have a smooth concrete garage floor for the most part.

I have a set, I think they were around $120. Don't remember where I bought them , but I have seen identical looking ones for sale elsewhere.
It does take 2 people to move the car still, pretty much ,as the wheels for one skate will be pointing 90 degrees to the wheels of another skate eventually.

Harbor Freight has 4 for $115.00

I bought those once and 3 of the wheels wouldn't turn. I didn't notice until I had them all assembled and under the car. Never could get them to move with all the weight on them. If you get them, be sure that everything turns freely - they looked sturdy enough.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

harbor frieght sells a lott of stuff that either brakes or doesn't work from the start.  They are real good about returning items, but it is a hassle to go through.  I still like to go in and luck.  Cummins Industial tools is a little higher but I have had some luck with them.

There's a local discount store that carries the same type of tools & equipment that Harbor Freight sells. (Lower quality & Made in China) I found a set of 4 for $80 that are the same as Harbor Freight's. They're strong, but like Troy stated, they don't roll very good. I planned on using them under a car with no drive train, so I figured they would be okay. I did use them under my Scamp, a lighter car than a B-Body Charger, & the cast iron casters are terrible. I waited until Harbor Freight had a 1/2 price sale on casters, & bought sixteen 5" wheels & mounted them to the car dollies. I had to drill some holes since half of the existing ones didn't line up, but it works better & I can move the car alone now. In the end it was still cheaper than the higher priced sets, but it was a PITA.

If you can, get the better ones & save yourself some aggravation. You'll curse the crappy set every time you try to move the car. If I ever need to replace these, I'd get a better set. The casters on my lift are 100 times better & I can roll the lift with a complete car on it with one hand. The other hand can hold a beer without spilling a drop.   :D

:haha:   When i priced out making my own it was looking to be around $300, but that might not seem to bad when i go to move the car by myself and not drop a nut. The casters were $15 a piece

Old Moparz

The casters I replaced on the dollies were 4" & cast iron. The ones I got from Harbor Frieght to replace them were 5" with a rubber surface over a metal wheel. They were $3.50 a piece on sale & work okay. I'd never consider $16, that's way too much for something I won't use every day. Sixteen wheels at $3.50 are $56.00 total. I think they still have free shipping over $50 per order.

Damn OM, do you squeek when you walk too. :icon_smile_big:

I almost didn't catch that & had to read that one twice.  :D

I'll admit I'm a tightwad, but it's helped over the years in gathering parts, tools, services & trying not to get screwed. That's happened a couple of times & it ain't fun. If I can find a deal on something I'll pass it on to someone else too. The best thing to do though, is not to cheap out on every purchase. Certain things, like the car dollies I bought, would have been better spending the money on a better set from the beginning. The stainless steel tool chest I found at Sam's Club was a great deal, & about 1/3 the price of a similar one. I went over that thing in the store for 15 minutes examining it & then tried to track down the manufacturer on line before I got it. Sometimes I research something to death & drive myself nuts, but it makes me feel better. (I think?)

The way I look at it, every buck I save on one thing I can spend on something else like Charger parts, or take the family somewhere on vacation.

Oh well, at least he's not as broke as I am. :-\

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

DO NOT buy the Harbor freight ones, they are JUNK!
I just got some on sale for $85.00 and they are completely useless, dont work at all. Once the weight is on them the wheels bind up and there's nothing you can do to fix the little bastards
:icon_smile_angry:

KMPX2

If you are lucky like me & have a  Harbor Freight store near by you can get them on sale for $80. They are very wide. You would be hard pressed to buy the wheel for that price

I've got a set of 4. Great for moving the body around. Except up here they are called wheel dollies.

er - its a real '68 but um, has some photoshop effects done to it to give it some neat visuality

Blakcharger440

Hey Storm I did not know that it wasnt real due to the avatar pic being so small  :icon_smile_angry:

I am sure if it would have been bigger I would have "guessed" that it wasnt real. Did you do the photoshop for 1bad68? If not then How do you know its fake and just a drawing?
