losing motivation?

i think i am losing the motivation i had when i started redoing my charger...there was a time when it was all i would think, sleep or breath, but now i have other things running through my mind. I'm getting back into other hobbies i had forgotten about, and the flame for the charger is slowly getting smaller....i don't know if it's the fact i haven't seen much progress lately, or that i'm dumping alot of money into something that is nothing more than a pile of parts or what....i'll always keep it around as i'm sure i'll get back into it, i go through this about every year where i just get burnt out for awhile....maybe all i need is a break who knows.....

no it is not for sale :P
Daddy ran whiskey in a big black dodge
bought it at an auction at the masons lodge,
Johnson County Sherriff painted on the side,
just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside,
well him and my uncle tore that engine down,
I still remember that rumblin' sound.....

What do you need to finish it? If you're like me you do things in "pushes" for lack of a better term. I will obsess about something and dedicate vast amounts of time, energy and money into it and then take a break for a long time until the next push. Right now I'm gearing up for my second push by saving up a bunch of money. I'm hoping to have about $10k in the bank before I go crazy on it again.

It will be there when you're ready to continue on it again...and it won't be pissed from the lack of attention. ;D

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Bull, thats basically what it is, i will obsess over certain things for afew months or a year or something, then i'll get started on something else, the thing i think is getting me is i am at the body work stage of it and i HATE body work....i'm pretty sure thats what it is....that and i've been trying to get the stuff together to start baling 40 acres my grandpa left to me and my brother so that is taking a decent chunk of my time and money....all the charger needs is to finish having the body work done, painted, and get the engine done, then i can start reassembly

Whatever you do, don't :yesnod: sell the Charger ! :yesnod:
I have been there before. In 96' I took up Motocross racing and got back into Mopars last Summer.Sold my survivor 73' SE/BB Charger and had to start all over again. :rotz:

I've lost interest a dozen times already on this Charger. Actually it's been issues like my shoulder, money etc but I just leave it where it is and wait until I can get back at it but then I get pissed off that I got lazy and it takes me more time. I should be much further than I am.

As I said in the 'have you ever hung up the Mopar hobby' thread, I lost interest on the GTX, got really pissed off and sold it. I regretted it almost immediately and had to search to locate the car again but I lost many parts that are long gone including a set of hemi carbs.

Just put it on the back burner and wait for the fire to reignite but don't be rash like I was and walk away.

Charger-Bodie

thats why i go so nuts when i do an car because i get it done before i lose interest!!

That happens with me too....I go like crazy for awhile and then back off to other interests. My Charger took over three years and that was after I really started working on it. I collected parts and was tearing it down for 7 years before that. I actually think that most hobby guys "pace" themselves because after all it is a marathon and not a sprint IMO.

Keep the car if you are able too as the fire will always flicker and make way for the next blaze.  :yesnod:

I've been in the "down" mode for about a year and a half now.

Stuff has taken over the garage to the point where I'll need to purge everything out of there and then just move whatever I need to work with back in.

I was all excited when I finally got my engine - a year ago, already - but then other stuff came up - school, moving, money issues, moving again. Now I have everything I need for the engine swap, except the know-how and the motivation.

Its cyclic same as life in general. You go from the peaks when you have money and time to spend on the cars to the valleys when there's no funds or time. To see a project just sit for long periods puts a nasty funk on it. But a few days working on it and you're back in the saddle

you might want to try to break things down to sub Assemblies. pick a area on the charger. keep your interests on that area till its the way you want it, then move to the next. i took my complete dash in the house, and fully cleaned, detailed and painted the thing. well, not paint in the house but you know what i mean. it was cool. it was like not working on the car, but it was like art. theres a lot of different things to keep you going.
for example, you have to be an electrician  to make 40 year old wiring work. you have to be a home decorater to get the interior the way you want it. you have to be a plumber to get the fuel system  and the brakes to work.  see what i mean? and last but not least, you got to be a farmer to figure out how to make it happen on low cash. sound exciting to you? see, your missing out on all this by doing nothing. make it happen. start with something simple again. if that doesn't work, crack a beer and sell it to me, or take some better advice, get next to a ricer clown car in your daily driver, and think man i could really kick that morons ass.

Ive gone through the same "No motivation, couldn't care less" with my Charger. I just closed the garage doors for about 2 months, didint even think about my car during those two months. After that, I again found the motivation and now I enjoy working on my ride again, well the Hemi engine I bought also makes it more fun...

Take a break from it for a bit and GO TO A CAR SHOW. Nothing will get you more fired up to finish then see a bunch of Nice finished MOPARS

Heck2G14

Yep, Been there many times, Ill just toss mine in storage for about 4-6 months (where I dont see it everyday, make sure it is out of the way, otherwise it will continue to be a hassle) then presto the flame will rekindle and Ill be back at it. It works for me.  Good luck

Big Lebowski

Long summer days & boredom will cure that problem. Get back on it, pretend gas isn't getting any cheaper. :icon_smile_big:

True, but I sometimes get discouraged when I look at the nice ones and realize how much work I still have to face.

Same with me (except a Hemi  - I don't have one). I guess most of us had a situation when we lost interest for a while. But I know my car is terr and I shall return back to work after some time. Don't sell her.

It can be hard to stay motivated.
This is my first time to restore a car and The lack of knoldege and having to redo stuff all the time really bummed me out.
I found that if I work on one project at a time untill it is complete, I dont get as frustrated.
My friends use to come over and say ( it looks like it did the last time I was here).
You can work for months on the little stuff and think theres no progress but there is.
Hang in there Man.
Good Luck

I took my 70 Challenger apart in 95, and I have gone in spurts as well.  She is getting close but I bet it sat in the garage untouched for periods of at least 5 years.  It wasn't eating anything, it wasn't out in the weather and it did nothing but appreciate over the years.  The only problem is during those down times, if someone would have offered me 10k for it, I would have probably sold it.  I am not sure what the car's value is today, but I am pretty sure you can't get a rust free 70 Challenger vert for 10k.  So, take a break let it sit and the fire will return.

Don't get too discouraged, My 68 R/T has been down for most of the last 24 years ( thats why my tag is Slowpke  ;D ).
When i lose the feeling I either do what has been suggested and go to a show or rereading my old
car mags and the interest comes back.
