Does anybody know how it works when a junkyard comes and hauls a car away for you?  Do they pay for the car or do you pay them to haul it away.  cause i think my friend had the junkyard pay him for a car they came to haul away.
Its no disgrace being poor.  Its just inconvienient.

69-DodgeCharger

depends on the junkyard, most want you to pay to haul it away, some want to get the cars out asap

Charger1973

Scrap iron prices are high, im sure you can find someone to pay you for it.

I had an old Cutlass taken off and also a Fiat coupe.
You have to be careful because some will try to get you to pay them to haul it but you should be able to find someone who will take in and even pay you $50.00 no problem. If they want to charge you hang up and keep calling around. ( I always thought the driver was keeping the money you gave him plus the money he should be paying you and then hauling it off)

All they wanted from me was that it was mostly complete and not a wrecked junker, had to have wheels and a clean title. Some may want the car to start or something stupid.
The guy came and got it and payed me $75.00 for one and $50.00 for another.
Remember that these junk yards make a lot of money off of these cars. I know a local yard whose owner is making well over $100k a year off his yard of junk parts.
Even when they are totally stripped clean they crush them and make money off the scrap.

HITMAN 149

they'll take & give you like $40-$100 bucks!!!

Great idea, some around here will take them even just to junk if you let them have all the $$ and it goes for a great cause.

What kind of car is it and where is it located?  Heck, someone here might even want it.   :P

There is a charity around here that does that. Then if they can the fix the car up for single Moms. Most of the junk yards around here tow it away and give you about $50-$100.

The tax laws on donating cars to charity changed 2 years ago. They used to give you a receipt and you could claim book value or whatever value you wanted. No longer. You now do not get a receipt until the charity disposes of the car, either at auction or for scrap, and you get a receipt for whatever they get.

Understand that depending on your tax bracket, you'll really only see a % of that as real money on your taxes. For example, if you're in a 28% tax bracket, what you end up getting is 28% of the reciept that the charity provided you.

Prior to the rules change, I used to donate a car or two every year. Sometimes they were winter bombs that I had used up, sometimes they were free cars that I found. Claimed book value or something less depending on condition and did pretty well.

I haven't donated anything since the rules change mostly because I stopped driving winter bombs. As expected, donations of cars to charities took a real hit once the rules were changed.

Most require the cars be complete and some want them to run. Some won't take certain models. I had a mid-80s Chevy that the Lung Association (who I always donated to) wasn't interested in so I gave it to the Association for the Blind.

If you were close to me and the car had at least a 350 in it I'd gladly take it.
I'm sort of looking for a 350 but also a good 454 for cheap.

1-800-kars 4 kids -- I donated my busted-ass buick pos last year and got a $500 tax deduction  :icon_smile_cool:  Just called them up, told them where it was, left the signed title in the seat, and 3 days later it was gone :)

GTX

You left the title on the seat?

Weren't you afraid it'd get stolen?   :icon_smile_big:

defiance
