I dont think its the turn signals, cause I hooked those up thisweekend to two bullet type connectors and they work.  That plug is still a loner. I will check the colors when I get home.

Despite the fact that I just worked 14 hours straight, caught a drug dealer (I'm a cop), and I'm so tired my elbows ache, I just went out and uncovered my Charger. After all that, it doesn't have that plug(!), but I think it's been removed, as there's a cut wire joined with tape. It's not the hood turn signals, as they're hooked up on mine, and the wire for them comes through the bulkhead. I can't see anything else nearby that it COULD fit. Is that a new loom on yours? Maybe it's a generic wire for something else? Brake fluid level maybe? Sorry, can't help much.
Right, I'm off to sleep!
I'd rather push a Charger than drive a Mustang.. which is lucky..

Thanks for looking and thanks for getting the bad guys!.  I went out to ID the colors today.  The two wires into the blade are black with green tracer and gray with black tracer.  Its part of a new wiring harness I got from Year One for a 383 with electronic ignition.

looked hi and low for those colors in a engine bay wiring- can't find any with those colors.

best thing to say is it is in the engine bay so tracing it back to where ever they come from should be easy.

Black with a green tracer???  and a gray with black( this could be a coil to tach feed???? but a connector in the bay??? )

let us know where the go and end!!!  wonder did someone use some leftover wire when they made the harness???

Does it match anything in the electronic ignition wiring?

GTX

What pin numbers on the block does it go to?

hemi68charger

Is that a brand new reproduction wiring harness for electronic ignitions? If so, it could be your connection to the distributor since the distributor lead has two wires..........

It is a brand new harness from year one:
HU107BM Engine harness modified for electronic ignition for all 1970 B-body models with 383 or 440 engines without Six Pack. reproduction.

I will do some tracing tonight.  My first thought was that the gray wire was to the tach, but as mentioned the plug connector threw me off.

thanks for the input and I will get on it to find some answers!

You could try YO's tech line.  They likely won't know but it's worth a shot.  To repeat GTX' question, which spot does it go to on the bulkhead connector?

MadScientist

OKAY! Here we go!  I finally climbed in there and followed them around.  I also just got in my Tach Wiring Harness from Charger Specialties.  This clears a lot up.  The gray wire is for the tach.  It goes to the neg terminal on the coil. This made perfect sense. What threw me off was the other wire since it went into the same plug as the gray wire.  After about 30 minutes of climbing around I fianlly spotted the wire going into my orange engine control unit (part of a 5 wire grouping).  I couldnt see it readily because I mounted the box under my battery tray.

The question I have now is what is it for if the tach has al the wiring it needs?  ???

BTW, thanks everyone for hanging in there with my stupidity leading everyone astray......   :rotz:

sounds like if the wire comes from the control box and goes to the plug and then goes to the - of the coil- they have given you a place to plug in a wire- then you take that wire and go thru the bulk head to the tach.

factory tachs have a + 12 feeding them, ground is the steel case and then the _ of the coil goes to the other post.

aftermarket tachs have 4 wires usually
+12 volts- usually red
- = ground- usually black
coil- usually green
light- usually white

Based on what I see, that sounds about right.  I will wire it up this weekend and see what happens!

Success!  the harness plugged in without issue and the Tach needle is looking good as it shoots up to 2500!   :drive:

Thanks for the input everyone!
