Hey gang....
I just did the conversion from amp gauge to volt gauge on my '69 Charger.. I was curious. The voltage readings,,,,,, shoulld it increase with engine rpm and then level off? I know the voltage regulator is supposed to maintain a 12v supply, but with the OEM mechanical regulator, will the voltage increase and then level off once the V.R. does it's thing...

Thanks....

depending on many things- but as an average- yes- at idle the alt is barely or not at all charging-thus voltage is around 12 volts- give or take.

when driving- rpm's go up- VR see's a load due to battery been drained a bit- so volts go up until VR is happy and will stay around 13.7-14 volts.

If your lights get brighter as the engine revvs higher does that mean the regulator is broken?

or BATT DAMAGED, unable to get recharged.

-Low Iddle speed.
-Loosen wires on alt studs or bulkhead.
-Big alt pulley.
-Short on alt or one of its components
