It is a little to big for a coffee table. It used to hang from the ceiling in my shop when at the time I was building a funny car.

It actually looks kinda like a stock Charger body.  Not nearly as altered as many of the flopper bodies of the time.

Looks like they started with a stock Charger shape and maybe just shortened the trunk area.  Aside from the obvious wheelwell mods, there isn't much about it that looks too weird.

A member of this site, Howie, once owned this car. He had it suspended from the ceiling of his garage. He said that it was very heavy. I owned Dickie Harrell's 1969 Camaro funnycar back in the late 70's and that body was so heavy that it took two guys to lift it.

I'm assuming fiberglass? looks like an amazing piece to have.

So what's it cost to get a funny car chassis custom built?

Howie

That body was taken off of a 68 charger. They must have slicked up the car cause you could see where the origional car moldings and windshield was in the car. The car was done by fiberglass trends as they had their business card layed up on the inside of the car. A guy in san fran area had the car in storage but lost his space. He then sold it to two mopar guys in the area who posted it on a funny car website. I drove out and picked it up just south of san francisco airport and brought it home.
I sold the body to a guy in oregon off ebay where he had me build a pallet and he had it trucked up there.  I see that he has sold it to whoever has it now.

What's interesting is that with all these owners, nobody has put it on a frame yet.

I'd love to have it too...and I'd probably suspend it from my ceiling, just like that! ;D
That thing's just cool.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

It would be cool to see it running again.  I'm a little surprised there isn't more of a "resurgence" in retro-old school floppers.  It was the same era as the altered-wheelbase cars that people are replicating.  They were the most badass thing of the time, and I don't know anybody who doesn't think they're cool even now.

But a flopper isn't made from street-car parts and it's not even realistic to make one streetable, so I'm sure that hurts the fan base & appeal.

We were talking about some place selling new fiberglass funnycar Charger shells a few months ago on the General Lee message board.  (Guess why DOH fans would be talking about a source of replaceable fiberglass Charger shells.)  The ones somebody had found for sale in that thread were obviously not stock-Charger shaped.  They had been molded off a vintage funny car shell.

Oh yeah, if I had the money I would most definitely add some new artwork ....In my living room.  Who needs a ceiling fan anyway. :icon_smile_big:

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

That is so cool.  Too bad you couldn't keep it, Howard.  I'd love to have it but I couldn't hang it from my ceiling. I'd bump into it all the time!  :brickwall:
I love the smell of nitro in the morning.
