Dodge and Jeep to be made in China

FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — DaimlerChrysler AG, seeking to cut costs and boost sales in North America, said Tuesday it will start selling Chinese-made cars there and in western Europe as it tries to meet demand for smaller, more economical vehicles.
The world's fifth-largest automaker said its supervisory board approved the framework of a limited partnership that will see China's Chery Motor Co. build the cars in China.
They will be sold in North America and western Europe under its Chrysler Group brands, which include Dodge and Jeep. Financial details were not released.
"Small vehicles such as these will allow Chrysler Group brands to compete in segments in which the brands do not currently compete, and which are especially important in price- and fuel-economy sensitive markets," the German-U.S. automaker said in a statement after a meeting of its supervisory board.
The deal is expected to be finalized in late March but still requires the approval of China's government, a move the company said was likely.
There was no word about Chrysler's fate after the supervisory board meeting, only a reiteration of DaimlerChrysler's position that the company is examining all its possibilities.

So who was it that said that they were going to keep their cheap crap Chinese made cars in China?  Rather see GM build Chrysler products than China.  I wonder if Wal-Mart is going to open a new car sales division now? ::)

That wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

It's only for the small stuff.  You guys realize that other "domestic" automakers already do this other places in Asia, right?  The "Chevy" Aveo is a Daewoo.

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

This "Global economy" is (will) kill(ing) the American manufacturing job segment. Is it right to have someone in a 3rd world country assemble/make thigs for WAY LESS than we would make to do the same job so we can buy that product cheap??  I don't think so.  The same labor crisis that the US faced in the 1910's-1920's is now being fought over-seas.  I don't expect the US worker to work for less,  but I do not think the workers across the ocean should work for so little to make products cheaper for us.  I think it's extortion and I am as guilty as the next guy for letting it continue. Sorry to get on such a Pol. rant but I am so sick of seeing foriegn cars,  and everything else that is being made abroad. WHEN WILL THE USA start taking care of itself instead of "selling out" to everyone else?

oh, you are not alone

there are many proud Americans, but there are less proud Americans who own 90% of the wealth who could give a shit less where products are made, just as long as they can continue with huge profit margins.  Keep in mind, this is totally regardless of the fact that they have more money than they know what to do with already.

But, I digress, the finger pointing game is pointless.  This cycle of economic events has been in motion for such a long time, and it will not stop anytime soon.  Businesses hold themselves at a totally parallel set of ethics.  It is this set of ethics that has created such phrases as "its a dog eat dog world" "welcome to the rat race" and has caused extreme hardship "enron" "Westar" and Goodyear holding true to its contracts with Germany even after Germany and the U.S. declared war (hastened the rubber shortage in the U.S. at that time).  Business has no boundaries, nor does it have loyalties.  Without Government regulation (sometimes even with), businesses will do whatever they need to do to succeed.

Thanks for letting me know I am not alone (almost maybe)  I am not trying to point fingers but I am trying to say that I am aware of the shortcommings of the "Global eonomy" I am not one of the 10% that owns large companies,  but am one who thinks that we  (the US) will in the future be making less ($ in jobs ) as the "global economy" steals more and more jobs from us.  I also do not belive the workers doing the jobs across the seas will be making more.  They will make only small advances in the market.  The ony ones making more will be the said 10%.   The time will come that so few will make so much and so many will make so little.  What's really upsetting is that the ones with the most want so spend the least.  I work in retail, my cheapest customers drive Lexus and such. The guy in the Ford is the nice guy  who never quarrrels about price and such. Just more ranting but ohh it feels great to let it out!
