Can anyone tell me anything about the attached picture of my differential casting. The numbers appear to be:

6 then A in a circle

2070741

263

Then it has a tag with 2.76 on it, which I guess is a final drive ratio.

Newbie question I know, sorry! :rotz:
I'd rather push a Charger than drive a Mustang.. which is lucky..

It's known as the 741 casting.  It's an 8.75 ring gear and it's still a plenty strong rearend although the 741 is generally considered the weakest of the 8.75 series.  It's all realtive though and what's weakest to a drag racer with four speed and slicks is no big deal at all to someone with a street car.
And yes, the tag is supposed to indicate the final drive.

Thanks very much, so long as it's useable. I'm new to Charger ownership, having always loved them, and get confused with all the 'Dana this' and 'six pack' that.. but I'm getting there..

Welcome to the best hobby in the world then and you won't be long learning.  There are guys on this site who should write a book they have so much knowledge that they freely share.

The 741 is plenty strong for any street car. The old Max wedge cars came with a 741 centersection from the factory. It will also have a rebuildable clutch style suregrip which is more desirable than the later cone units. There are also some new ring and pinion options for this carrier as well.  :icon_smile_cool:

Provided it's a Sure Grip.  :icon_smile_wink:

Max Wedge? Sure Grip.. agh! I was just getting used to R/T and 318.. is there a glossary on here anywhere?

When the car arrived here, the roof was shot, and the floor and trunk pans. I've sourced all those, including the roof for $150, which I thought was ok..

Can't wait to get started. I've restored/rebuit cars before, and am looking forward to roaring round the island in the car.
