Anyone have a good recomend for a car inspection?

I found a sweet 69 Charger needing some electrical work for a good price, since the car is out of state I was planning on using a auto inspection 3rd party to look at the car for me. But the one I was looking at (on Ebay) says it only inspects cars from 1980 to present. Does anyone recomend or not recomend this over flying out to see the car? And does anyone have a company to recomend for the inspection and a approximate price range per inspection?

Thanks

What state are you in Mike??

You never know a member on here might be in the area and willing to take a look for you.  If it was in Maine I'd be more than happy to do the job if it's reasonable distance.

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

MikeMacCham

It never ceases to amaze me how nice people are on this site. I'm in California, the car is in Connecticut...

This isn't the green one on ebay that keeps getting relisted, is it?

Hmmm. If it is that car the seller has 2 negative feedbacks out of 4. One of the deals that fell through was for this car http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320068808161.
Verrry similar to the one he's selling. Even the same green air cleaner and Edelbrock valve covers! It smells like......

You might want to ask them why they keep relisting the car.

Something smells.

I agree, what do you think is going on? because I am lost.....
I had asked and he said one person was going to buy the car a couple of weeks ago and had someone come out and look at the car, but he ended up not buying it because he lived in the UK and didn't want to go through the hassle of getting it over seas.  I had seen the negative adds, but didn't look at the car, and or notice it looks the same, he said he bought the car from the original owner in SC, does this one smell funny enough to just walk away from?

That's your call.  But if it was me, I would keep looking.  :yesnod: There's lots of good clean cars out there that have less questionable sellers.  Good luck.     Chuck...............

Does he have a title?

Is he open to having the car inspected prior to any money changing hands?

mikepmcs

Yup, that's a scammer.  There's another thread on here about it.  Run away from that one.

Yeah he is OK with someone looking at the car first. ..
So there is another discussion about this guy?

So I don't bug you guys so much, are there some good future tell tail signs to not even bother because it is  bogus...?

Mike,
Here's the other thread on this one.

But you say he's willing to let you look at it, hmmm.  I Just don't know though, because this car has been on ebay numerous times and in a couple different states.

One of my numerous sayings I've used in the military all these years is "When there's doubt, there is no doubt"

I like the part in the listing where he says I will take 16k buy it now, but a deposit will have to be made before I end the auction.  That is against ebay rules without putting a Buy it now on there which if you think about it, why wouldn't he just do that and put deposit information below in the payment section like $1000 due within 24 hours or something to that effect.  I would never pay a deposit on a vehicle that i purchase on ebay.  I bought my 55 just that way.  I had numerous conversations with the seller and told him I would hit the BIN but wouldn't give a dime in deposit.  I also said I would bring the whole amount in a cashier's check from my credit union the following saturday.  He agreed and the rest is history.

My theory on this guys blurb about stopping the auction is this, he puts the "you will have to make a deposit before I stop the auction" so the potential buyer gets the info and puts the money in his account and then poof, yeah he stops the auction and you are out the deposit and no car to show for it. As a matter of fact I'm gonna send this listing in to ebay as a rule violation.

One more thing then I'll shut up, click the listing that white hat posted about 10 posts up(it's his first one not the second one with the copper car).  That is definitely the same car and it went for $55k on that one.  Now why would he take $16K now.

Post your finds up here and we'll collectively as a group be able to tell if it's real or not.  I think that is the safest way IMHO.

I hate scammers.  End rant.
Good luck

This could also be someone who is highjacking someone else's ebay account and then trying to score a quick hit.
I'd still be willing to look at a car in CT for you, but I agree with Mike from Maine...steer a wide turn past this one and don't look back.

Yeah could be the hijack thing too.  One of their favorite tricks is you have to get preapproval before bidding, boom they get your id, user name, email addy, etc.... and they never respond back.  Don't fall for that one either.
I thought of something else as well, the supposed seller gives you an arbitrary address to view the car but the car won't be available or the seller can't be there until close to auction end.  WhiteHat drives to this location which is either not the place the car resides or a Mickey D's, or a warehouse, etc.... you get the idea.  By the time that is over with the auction will most likely be ended and once again this goofball gets away with it.

You hit it right on the nose,
Hey is on vacation in florida, and they can not contact the buyer that prevously was going to buy the car (I had asked to contact him for a copy of this report)...
This was the reply when I asked about the negative feedback on a similar car:
I believe my husband told you we bought the car from the original owner, the car was being listed by a broker & when we went to see the car in North Carolina, we found out that the guy wasn't the owner. We had already made a deal-but you can't end an auction within 12 hrs of its end. So I had to outbid some other buyer. When we went to look at the car, we ended up purchasing from the real buyer, since the broker didn't own the car yet.The guy was a little shady. Thats the story

Now what about this one?
I asked how much this car was
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300079170793&ru=http://motors.search.ebay.com:80/300079170793_W0QQfromZR40QQfviZ1

and this was there reply...seems similar to me, especially the not around for a month... :
I'm really sorry for this late reply but I've been very busy lately
and
away from a computer. The price that I want to obtain is $5,800
(including shipping and insurance charges), with a down payment $2,900.
The price is considerably lower then others on the market because I
need
to sell it really fast.
The car has all the services done at the dealership. The vehicle was
never crashed, abused or raced. I always garaged it and serviced it,
kept very good care of it!. The vehicle is currently located in
Oldsmar,
FL but unfortunately I am in Tucson AZ, planning to open a business
here
and I don't think I can come sooner then next month. However I can
arrange for the paperworks from here and I can talk to a shipping
company to deliver the vehicle to your address.
I think it's impossible to buy a vehicle for such a big amount without
having an inspection first. So I had a look on eBay and I saw they
could
help us with this. Since the transaction worths a lot of money they've
suggested to make the deal only through eBay so that we won't have any
problems.
If you decide to buy all the papers are ready, just needed to be signed
by you.
If you decide not to buy for a serious reason(of course after the
inspection) then you can just ask the shipping company to send it back
to my address with no extra cost(shipping is payed in advance by me).I
think this is the fastest, safest and most fair solution we can have.
If you are interested to purchase the vehicle please provide me the
following information's:
-your full name and full address
-your ebay user id
-your phone #
If I receive the requested information you will be informed by eBay
during the next hours with details about your purchase.

Definite scam.  By the looks of the responses, they are generated, and most likely by a foreigner.

I reported the car to ebay 2 days ago.

Notice the bidding has ended with no bids and no sale.  As soon as ebay questioned them..... scam on the run, scam on the run.
