Anyone hear of "Second Life"?

I was reading my weekly publication, "The Week", and it had an article about this new virtual reality program/community called "Second Life".  The article made it look very interesting, but it also looks like a "pandora's box" to most, if not all, people.  You can get so involved with this on-line community, that you loose sight of your real life around you.

I'll be honest, I went to the website and allllllmost did it.  I got as far as picking a name for myself, and choosing an avitar for my alter-self, which looked like a twenty year old, fit, young man.  That was as far as I got- I chickened out in going any further.  I thought for a moment when I was so very involved with gaming a few years ago- before our daughter, Rhiannon, came into our lives.  These games were not of the internet kind, but rather those that you purchase.  I'd play "Medal of Honor", "Command And Conquer", and a few other strategy games like those.

When I was single and on my own, those took up a LOT of my free time.  Now that I have a family and a helluva LOT more responsibilities, I have no time for computer games any more.

I guess that is when sensibility and reason schwacked me on the head when I was about to complete the registration for "Second Life", and I hit the red X in the upper right corner of the screen.  Man, I hope I don't get any e-mails from that company.

Anybody here have a "Second Life" and tell us what you think?

Bradley,

I don't have it and don't play games on the computer but I think you made the right call.
I know people with a families that they sit around and play video games while their wife is trying to entertain/feed/take care of the kids.

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

you mean there's more on the internet than here?..  :o

MAN a LOT of my students are gamers and most are into this "World of Warcraft" So I decided to find out more about it.

This borders on BIZARRE. They have these alternate lives and characters and go to the point of buying stronger characters from auction sites like Ebay.

Sorry I would much rather build modelc ars or work on my Chargers. They just get this blank look when I mention that.

Truly odd.

I can`t get into it , far too busy with a real life to bother with fictional life
