Yeah it is something you buy I am using Photoshop CS2 9.0.2. Of course there are ways that you don't have to pay. But that would be stealing and that is not something that is condoned on this site.

I use PaintShop Pro8, now owned by Corel... :'(

Overall, a great buy for normal users that don't need the absolute best software available.  for 20-25% of the price of PhotoShop you can get PS Pro's latest version:  http://www.paintshoppro.com/pspx_offer/index.html

I have had some problems with version 8 that I did not have with version 7 and earlier ones, but they are relatively minor issues mostly involving the addition of text... maybe I need to read the manual!  :P  :icon_smile_wink:

"PhotoShop" is a brand - like "RollerBlade" - but many people use the word to descibe many sorts of photo/picture editing. PhotoShop itself is rather expensive and is a professional level application. There are several versions and also several competitors. It does many, many different things and can be confusing for people who aren't graphic designers. It doesn't make much sense for someone to buy it only to crop pictures (like I do). If you want a competent graphics application you can try "Gimp" which is open source (free) but has and endless number of options, menus, and effects as well. I have used Paint SHop Pro in the past and it did way more than what I needed. Many digital cameras also come with some basic photo editing software but it's, well, basic.

I use Photoshop CS2.  It's overkill for most people.

I just picked up Photoshop Elements which does not have all the pro features but more than the average user would ever use and it only cost $79 at Costco.
