how do i tell if its a real roadrunner????

hi guys. a friend of mine told me about a roadrunner(its either a 68 or 69) for sale. what do i need to look for as  far as the vin. number  to tell if it is a real roadrunner? thanks for any help....

Roadrunner coupes Vin#'s start off  RM21, hardtops are RM23, and converts are RM27.

i agree..theres a tag on the driver side inner fender and another on the top driver side dash you can see through the windshield....thats the one i would look at....should be pop riveted in...the other one on the inner fender has philp screws...easier the change

As above the first two letters have to be RM. The 21, 23 ,27 are body styles - coupe, hardtop, ragtop

If its a '68 there is a serial number (not the vin), this number should be stamped on the radiator and under the trunk lip. Check these to make sure that the car is not a satellite with a RR vin and fender tag mounted on it. The serial number can be found on the fender tag, it is the last  set of 6 numbers in the bottom row of the tag. The radiator numbers can be difficult to find but the numbers under the trunk lip should be easy to find. These serial numbers will only be used on a '68 road runner, if its a '69 these serial numbers will NOT be used.

Another quick check that a lot of Satellite/Bevedere cum Road Runner tag swaps seem to miss is that a Road Runner will will have the Hemi suspension and brakes under it.  Belvedere trim only too so if it has Satellite guts or grille, that should also raise a red flag.

I can't understand why someone would taka a care as cool as a Satellite, and change it into just another road runner. Every Mopar car show I have ever been to has had 2 kinds of cars. Half of them are 1968 and 69 Road Runners, and the other half is everything else. Sure, Runners are cool, but everybody and his brother has one.

I was thinking about cloning my sport satellite into a GTX, but decided to leave it how it was made. In my opinion its cool have something different, even if it isn't as "desirable" as a GTX or RR. Plus I can make a few mods to make it more drivable and change the color and not feel like I'm ruining a priceless classic.

It was a hell of a sales success though.  I understand what you're saying Dennis, but imagine going to the Chevy shows and having to put up with endless acres of land covered in 69 Camaros.  That's gotta be way worse.
