Heel Pad and Gas Pedal...should they line up or overlap one another?

Hey folks, I think I may have an idea of why I have my short carpet issue on at least the front carpet on my 69 Charger. Can anyone comfirm where the gas pedal should be in relation to the heel pad? I have about a 1/4 gap between the back of the gas pedal mount and the end of the heel pad square. Should the gas pedal overlap the heel pad? That would force my carpet forward and then the left edge would line up better but I wanted to get comments. Does the pedal just overlap onto the heel pad?

I am getting some carpet jute today to try to lift the carpet up to add some length. That should help but any comments on the heel pad and gas pedal location would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hmmm....mine is actually a little farther away. I lined mine up from the back seat hump.   Didin't really have a problem that I remember, anyone else? ???

Hmmmmmmmm...thanks for the shot. Mine is about a 1/4 apart between the back of the pedal and the pad. It I put it further back I'd have an even bigger gap at the kick panels.

Good news! I got jute padding at lunch and am going to "build up" the underside of the carpet to help give me more material to work with. I hope it does the trick.

I have a factory interior picture. It shows the bottom of the gas peddle is in the corner of the heel pad. I dont have a scanner yet with my new computer.

This is the way that 68's came, right ''in'' the top corner of the heal pad, this is the original carpet.

I wonder if the '68 carpet was different or if the reproduction stuff is that far off. There is no way my new carpet would have went that far forward and worked.  :ahum:

Well that's what I thought while doing my red 68, so I did not get it in the correct location just above
the heal pad just touching actually. So while doing my wife's Gold 68 R/T I was going to make it
correct no matter what. I did get that pad and throttle pedal in the correct spot, but the carpet
is only overlapping each other 1/2in under the seat but people don't notice that.

The molded 4 speed hump on my carpet will not allow for much more forward movement at all. I looked at my '68 original carpet (BTW It looks just like your original) while doing the '69 earlier this year. I really think the heal pad is larger on the original but, I will measure it too make sure.

These pictures are FANTASTIC! That is what I thought, the carpet has to move foward which will allow the correct fit. I'm only hoping that the cut for the gas pedal is not that obvious when the carpet it moved forward.

THANKS ALL FOR THE PICS!!!

I believe 8 Wheeler is correct.

The old magazine "Chrysler Car Enthusiast" had an article in Jan 1997 that I saved because it gave clear instructions about where to locate the gas pedal.  A rectangular cut is made to thh vinyl heel pad for the bump on the bottom of the pedal to fit into.  This leaves about 1/2 from the top and rifht side of the heel pad to the edge of the hole.  Sorta makes sense that the heel of your shoe is supposed to hit the heel pad, not the carpet.

Peace,

Neal J.
