Do you ever think about what use to be?....

I haven't posted for a while because I seem to work a lot now days. I come here everyday but I just seem to read.

I have been thinking about a lot of things from my childhood recently and it makes me remember why I love old Mopars so much.

When I was a small child we had a 1965 Dodge Dart. It was white with a blue interior. I remember riding it it on the interstate with my head out the window. We were driving back home to Kentucky after my Dad's death in Florida. I remember driving in that car as far back as my memory goes. I know that my Dad loved it and I know he wanted a newer version prior to his death.

About a year after my Dad died I remember going to Dodge World, a local dealer in Louisville. My Mom, my sister, brother and I found a 1973 Dodge Charger SE in the showroom that we had to have. It was B5 blue with a blue interior. It was the first car I ever rode in with a shoulder belt and warning chime to make sure the belts were fastened. I remember that because we had to stop to figure out why the darn beeping sound would not stop. It's funny how you remember the small things...

In 1984 I was one year into college and my Mom helped me buy a new "Charger". I loved that car. I put almost 100,000 miles on it. I know it wasn't a real Charger but I still loved it.

I am now 41 years old and I have owned more Dodge vehicles than I can recall. I have a "68" Charger in the Garage and a 2007 Ram quad cab in the driveway. My 12 year old son loves his Mopar's. The annual Mopar Nationals are the highlight of the year for both of us.It has become our chance to bond. Isn't it funny how one purchase can change the future? If my Dad had purchased a Chevy or a Ford I might have went a different direction. it was that one 1965 Dodge Dart that made the impression on me. I remember looking out the window of that old Dart and seeing the Pentastar. It is an indellible memory that has affected me my whole life. It is a part of me.... A part that goes way beyond a company, brand or product. It is a memory...a fond thought of my childhood. It is part of my identity. It is part of my son's identity.

Isn't it funny how one decision...a purchase..can make on the future?

Thanks for listening. I guess I was feeling a bit sappy tonight.

Welcome back, you sap! :icon_smile_tongue:

Oh & yes, I think about stuff like that too at times.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

My Dad taught me about TIME TRAVEL.

welcome back. I guess if your dad were to driver Ford/Chevy you'd own Chevy/ford then and probably would be on another forum. Each old car has its own story that's why they're fun, intriguing cars, no matter if its Chevy, Ford, Dodge.

It's good to know I was missed. I am doing just fine. I never actually went anywhere. I come here every day but I don't seem to have much time to post. I am going to try to post more. I miss talking to you guys.

I took the job at Toyota last year and it's been non stop ever since. I have moved slowly on my car because of the lack of free time. My goal is to have it on the road by spring. I may take a week off work next month and devote that time to the Charger.

When i was born(1975) i rode home from the hospital in Dads '73 Road Runner and my mom held her hands over my ears the whole way home so that the exhaust sound wouldnt damage my hearing. :icon_smile_big:  I've been hooked on Mopars since birth :yesnod:

sniff,.. sniff.. that was beatiful man... sniff..  :'(

naw, see if your dad drove a Foed Falcon or a Chevy II you'd be drivin either a Super Cobra Jet Torino or a LS 6 SS or 396,..
now if he had drove a Rambler American you'd be in a American Motors Rebel Machine...  :yesnod:

welcome back Telvis, I  hope you can find the time to do it all..  :icon_smile_wink:

Glad to see ya Telvis! That's a nice story and yes it's a good feeling. Ever think that maybe the Mopar love is a "trigger" to revive wonderful old memories of your dad? It's also a good way to keep him around thru thoughts. My dad's deal is guns, so every time I bring out one he gave me, it triggers memories of hunting with him.
