What kind of console?

I came across this in a box of parts, at first I thought that someone had drilled holes in it for aftermarket guages or cassette player. But after looking at it more closely, I can teel that it was not done by some hack with a drill bit. Does anybody know what could have been mounted from the factory? I believe it is a B body console top.

Ghoste

Yep.  That was for a console mounted guage in a 66 or 67.  In Coronets and Plymouth's the guage could be a tach or performance indicator (which was really a vacuum guage) and in Chargers it was for the optional clock (which my car has).
What is the top surface finished like?

lumpy

It has a swirled woodgrain texture, I have it for sale on e bay if someone wants it, Thanks for clearing that up for me ;D

Ghoste

Hmmm.  I've never seen a woodgrain.  It defintiely isn't for a Charger and I'm pretty sure it isn't for a Coronet either.  Could you get woodgrain on a Plymouth B-body?
Or could it be from an A-body?  Some of them had a console mounted guage too.

The c body 4 speeds had that type of woodgraining didn't they?

1969 Charger R/T 440 4 speed
1970 Charger 500 440 auto

2005 Ram 2500 4x4 Big Horn Cummins Diesel 6 speed

But did they have console mounted guages of any type?  It could be a 69 Dart console.  What is the e-bay link and are there pics of it there?

It is a B body console, the wood grain appears factory. C body used the same console? Someone cut out the  gear selector , maybe for an aftermarket shifter. I thought woodgrain was only used in '70.

That woodgrain looks different than the b body style and it was available in 1969 and 1970. I have seen that style graining in C bodies that had a console. They did use the same console for a time there...I think they also had a cigarette lighter in the rear chrome tail piece.

Now that I've seen it, I'm thinking C-body as well.

lumpy

Cigarette lighter in the console? Now that's COOL!!! I must say that I have never seen one of those!! I did take a console out of a '67 Sport Fury and it was the same as a B-body.

Ghoste

The basic console shell was pretty much across the board (excpet for A-bodies? and obviously E-bodies) from 67 to 70.  The top plate changed a little and the rear trim but that's about it.  The lighter in the back was a C-body thing.  With all that width back there, you didn't want those smoking middle passengers in the back seat having to reach all the way across to one of the windows now did you?
Funny, the 67 Charger even included an ashtray in the passenger door armrest as standard and today, ashtrays are an option in most cars.

B5 Charger

I saw a '68 Chrysler 300 convertible with that kind of top at the 2003 Mopar Nat's.  That's the only console I have ever seen that kind of woodgrain on.  I think it have a vacuum guage mounted on it.

lumpy

Chrysler 300, that's nice to know. It really is kinda neat looking, too bad someone hacked it up!! Thanks for the info, now try and guess my other console on this page :scope:

Nacho-RT74

already got an answer 'bout that console on the other thread ;)
