HI... I have been asking myself why this difference.

MY car  AND ALL 70S MOPARS I have seen has one single long plug ( blue, but color is not the deal ) on the turning switch harness, however all I have seen from year one, to standard and buymopar.com sells this one, with two different plugs:

WHY ?

Look in the wiring diagrams for the C-bodies and look at the cornering lights. If you're asking about what I think you're asking about, it's the extra pigtail that doesn't connect to anything in your car. Mopar generally tried to keep to a one size fits all philosophy when they could. Most replacement turn signal switches had the extra pigtail that only a few cars actually needed.

Because it's a superseded part that mopar says will fit . Extra pigtail is for cornering lamps as mentioned

which cornering lamps ? sorry my ignorance

most or all C bodies had corning lights. when you signal there is a extra white light that comes on beside the marker light for seeing around the corner.

it was optional on a lot of larger cars & i think std on the Imperials , the switch still fits , I just cut off the extra wires right at the switch

they were common on the full size luxo cars but not on smaller or stripper models.

I have the answer for you regarding the purpose of the extra pig tail.  I just replaced the turn signal switch (genuine mopar part $70) and it has the extra pig tail on it.  The one in my 70 Charger did not.  I figured that it was for a newer or different model also, one part fits all philosophy.  Flipping through my 70 Charger Service Manual today looking for something else I stumbled on it by accident.  The last page of the electrical section shows the steering column and components.  It clearly shows the turn signal switch and harness with the pig tail  and it is labled as to going to the cruise control.  Possibly it can also go to cornering lights too as mentioned by other posters, but it is definitely part of the cruise control on 70s and probably more models and years.

Cruise control is a separated harness and is inserted directly in to the turning switch lever. Wires colors are completelly different. I cant recall them right now but I thik they are light blue, light yellow and white. The extra pigtail on turning switch on pic shares same colors on main harness to turning lights.

yes I thought that but only remember those 3 colors. dunno if they are 4 wires and just 3 colors... ok, don't worry. I have diagrams and I can check them. Just was clarifying to Toast is not the cruise control stuff.

This thread is old :P
