Can you measure your speaker for me?

Howdy all,
This is my first post here and I need some help, please.
Having recently completed a three-year rebuild of a '74 Dart Sport with my son
for his first car, I am VERY familiar with A-bodies.  I'm not up to speed with the
B,E, etc. bodies very much.  I ran across this forum and thought I would stop
in to see if I can get a little help from you guys.

For my son's new stereo installation in his Dart, I replaced the old single-cone
4"x10" speaker with a brushed aluminum bracket I designed to accommodate
dual 3-1/2" two-way coaxial speakers.  We did not want to cut up his original
door panels or kick panels.  This picture is where I tested the bracket for fit in
a '76 Duster dash I had off a parts car.



Here is what I need help with...
Could some of you Charger owners (especially those doing restorations that have
good access to your dash) please provide me with a measurement between your
speaker mounting studs under your dash?  I've never seen under one of these
dashes, but I can't imagine Chrysler doing anything much different than on the
A-bodies, like in my picture.

I make these twin-speaker brackets to sell for the A-bodies, but I have recently
been getting requests for other year/model cars, especially '69 Charger and
'69 Coronet.  If Chrysler used the same 4"x10" speakers on most of their
car models, I'll be in good shape.  But if they changed sizes somewhere along
the way, I want to provide a bracket to fit each application.  The mounting
stud spacing (center-to-center) for the Dart measures 11-7/16".  This bracket
has been used for '65 Darts, '68 Barracudas, '72 Swingers, etc.

If you can help me with a measurement (and a good under-dash photo), please

add a post later in the appropriate area for selling these brackets, in case some
of you might be interested in adding stereo sound up front.

I can get you good 71-74 B body measurements and pictures, but it will have to be later tonight.  My dash is sitting on the living room couch at the moment.

Perfect, just what I need.  Because I need to drill holes in the ends of the bracket for mounting,
please make sure you measure center-to-center of your mountings studs.  Thanks much.

By the way, your dash on the couch reminds me of when we got the seats upholstered for my
son's Dart.  I had them stashed all around our dining room for about one month, until we finally
installed them.  The wife was none too happy about that.

Ok here is what I have.  Just let me know when you get the pictures saved so I can delete them from my album.  I set the camera to take good sized pictures.   

Mine must be different than the A-body speaker because I measured it more than once and it looks to be dead on 10.5 inches from center to center.  If you need any other pictures, or someone to test one of those bad boys out, just let me know.

Oh and my seats are next in line for the living room.  The new covers are already ordered.

I got the pics saved.  Now, I can see your setup is completely different than
the A-body.  Your speaker is shaped a little differently and mounts into the
dash from the top, rather than up from the bottom.  What's not clear, and
if you can take one more pic from above the dash it might make sense, is what
covers the speaker?  Is there a separate speaker grill, or something like a
second dash pad?

I'm sure I could cut a similar oval shape to fit inside the top lip, and then add
two 3" holes separated as widely apart as possible.  The new 3-1/2" speakers
can then mount from the bottom of the bracket, just like ours.

There is actually a metal plate that covers the speaker area that attaches after the dash is in the car.  I'll get some more pics for you tomorrow and you will have a PM soon.

Now, I understand.  As a matter of fact, my son and I took his
Dart Sport to a little gathering this afternoon with some friends
who drive Chargers, Road Runners, Challengers, etc.  I took a
peek at how their's looked.  Thanks for clearing that up.
